It happened on Route 17 in the town of Blooming Grove – 53 miles north of New York City and traffic was backed up for miles.
ABC was less than a mile away from the scene but said it’s hard to get any closer because of the massive traffic backups in every direction.
Drivers were saying it took them three hours just to go a few miles – all this because of Route 17 being was shut down friday night in both directions – between exits 126 and 130 in Orange County.
The accident, involved a collision between a mini van and a tractor-trailer carrying a truck load of junk cars.
The mini van was completely crushed and destroyed in the crash, and despite the efforts of rescue personnel on the scene, all three people in the van were killed.
A family spokesperson for the victims tells Eyewitness News that all three were from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, all were Hasidic Jews and in fact two of the victims had just gotten married seven months ago.
There were massive traffic backups on every alternate route.
The three victims in the crash were buried shortly after the crash, in accordance to the religious beliefs of the Hasidic Jews.
