Egg Recall Sparked by Salmonella Threat: Are You at Risk?

WASHINGTON, DC [CBS] — A massive egg recall has consumers scrambling to check their pantries for eggs that might be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall involves 228 million eggs produced in Galt, Iowa by Wright County Egg, and distributed to wholesalers and food service companies nationwide.

The recall affects eggs sold under the following brands: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms, and Kemps.

If you have suspect eggs, check the dates and codes stamped on the end of the carton.

The plant numbers affected are P-1026, P-1413, and P-1946. The dates (recorded in the “Julian format”) range from 136 to 225, according to a statement by the Egg Safety Center. For example, eggs in a carton marked with the number P-1026 137 should not be eaten.

Consumers who have suspicious eggs can get a refund if they return them in their original carton to the store where they were bought.

“This recall is of shell eggs only. Other egg products produced by Wright County Eggs are not affected,” the company said in a statement.

Minnesota health officials say seven salmonella cases in two restaurant outbreaks have been linked to Wright County Egg in May and July.

    Important note to all:
To prevent problems Eggs need be refrigerated starting at the arrival to store, in addition to when you bring them home…
Those who do not refrigerate the eggs properly within their
stores present the buyer with a dangerous situation..
Risk of salmonella is greatly enhanced…!!!

Raw eggs are the biggest problem. If the eggs are TOTALLY cooked, it poses no risk. Unfortunately people make things like chocolate mousse where raw eggs are incorporated into the sugar and chocolate mix.
Many high end restaurants also make their own mayonaise using whole raw eggs. On Pesach, we just go without mayo rather than risk it.
Once again, TOTALLY cooked eggs are fine.

Commenter #3 – you are right on target!

The Justice department has egg on its face!
Has anyone noticed how the once tolerant state of Iowa has had a string of seemingly unconnected (un)natural tragedies following the corruption of Tzedek Tzedek Tirdof in their judicial system with the egregious sentence on Reb Sholom Mordechai, may he be well and freed from the horrible incarceration to rejoin his family.

Because of the miscarriage of justice

1: There was a MISCARRIAGE tragedy of a horse drawn coach that ran amok killing and maiming many at a 4th of July FREEDOM celebration in Iowa.

    2) There was an entire series of floods “ki molah haaretz chomos” they stole his livelihood and worse – of so many innocent workers – all in the name of justice!

    3) Now the egg supply “food” industry is gravely affected …
Follow the dots and it is not for anyone to claim they know why these things happen but it certainly leads one to do T’shuvah and reflect as the Rambam tells us to do when these things occur.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for people of EMUNAH to mention this to all who are G-d fearing residents of Iowa – that the quicker they repent for what was done to Rubashkin — the better it will be for them financially and in every area of their citizens lives.

Iowa has had a lot of bizzare happenings lately. First run away horses in a parade killing people, then a freak burst of a dam, and now this. Hashem has his ways!
