Gimmel Tammuz with 6 Chabad Houses in Brooklyn

Two sister synagogues, Congregation B’nai Avraham of Brooklyn Heights and B’nai Jacob of Park Slope, celebrated Gimel Tammuz on Wednesday night, June 28, 2006.

It was organized by all six Chabad houses of Brownstone Brooklyn. As firm bulwarks of Chabad Lubavitch in Brownstone Brooklyn, the shuls’ congregants got together at B’nai Jacob, 401 Ninth Street, to honor the Rebbe, to bask in his positive outlook for Yiddishkeit, and to refuel at the fountain of optimism for further outreach opportunities.

The festivities included a lecture given by Rabbi DovBer Pinson, a video of the Rebbe, speeches by Rabbi Shimon Hecht of B’nai Jacob and Rabbi Aaron L. Raskin of B’nai Avraham, and entertainment by Piamenta.

The keynote speaker over dinner was Professor Lawrence Schiffman of New York University. Although Professor Schiffman’s specialty is Judaic studies and Qumran Scrolls, he spoke about the Rebbe. Professor Schiffman’s discourse was thorough, insightful, and thought-provoking. He reported on the Rebbe’s elevated perspective; all-encompassing knowledge; his ability to bounce religious studies off of secular learning and to tap into every Jewish Neshama and extend it.

After the official program, there was a Fabrengen, in which there was a resolution that Chabad of Brownstone Brooklyn would offer a free Rambam’s Sefer HaMitzvos to anyone who would agree to study the daily Mitzvah of the Rambam, for which the new yearly cycle begins next month.

Why od Chabad Houses have to wait till some bochurim look like some of the individuals in these pictures (not so frum, to say the least) before treating us in a mentshlichen amnner. Do we have to shave our beards and remove the Yarmulkas from our heads in order to be treated in a humanly decent manner by some of the Shluchim. I hope that those emissaries reading this post will take my comment seriously and realize how important it is to treat EVERYONE with respect. A frum bochur is NOT sub-human. Remember, you were also once upon a time a bochur. How did you like it when a shliach or rabbi would ignore you, or treat you disrespctfully just because you look chassidsh. Such treatment truly turns some of us off. Then when we are totally frey, you begin to treat us mentshlichly, if you’re a mentsh. That’s not the way things should be. That doesn’t make the Rebbe proud. As a shliach you ahve the responsibility and obligation to treat every single Jew and even goyim wioth dignity and respect. Thank you for posting this comment.

One more point. Sometimes at Heichal Menachem they also exhibit such descrimination. They tend to give out the "Souveneir" at their events only to those who don’t appear to look Luvbavitch. So, a Lubavitcher who goes out of the way to attend and support their events in B.P or Bnei Braque or Yerushalyim, doesn’t deserve the "souveneir". It’s only for the nearby non chabadniks…. That’s not very fair either. once ahd to put up the brim of my hat to get the souveneir seferthat they were distributing the the kehal….

Please be considerate of these matters, dear Shluchim and all.

its great to see shluchim from diff chabad houses in the same area working together. great work

  • you know who

kingsley and ron, great to see you in full concentration unlike the usual shabbat day meals at my bro, lol

  • ANONOMUS-LIKE YOU SOMETIMES TREAT ME

ARYEH, YOU’VE GOT A GREAT POINT, BUT DON’T LET IT GET YOU TOO DOWN. WE’RE NOT PERFECT EITHER, AND WE MESS UP IN OUR OWN WAY, TOO. STILL, I HOPE PEOPLE SEE YOUR POINT, THAT THROUGH UNINTENTIONAL LACK OF CONCERN THEY CAN REALLY HURT A PERSON AND EVEN MAKE US FEEL UNWANTED AND INVISIBLE.,-NOT A GREAT WAY TO TREAT ANYONE AT ALL, AND CERTAINLY NOT PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT CHABAD PROGRAMS. IT’S SORT OF A STRANGE VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN US, – I GUESS, BUT HEY, IT MAKES US FEEL LIKE TWO CENTS SOMETIMES.
    SIMPLE SOLUTION-TREAT EVERYONE RIGHT.
