Oholei Torah Honors Outstanding Talmidim

Crowning off a highly successful year in Beis Medrash Oholei Torah, close to two-hundred students, together with the hanholas hayeshiva, gathered in the main Beis Medrash to celebrate a siyum, and honor outstanding thirteen students who memorized the entire meseches Shabbos and those who memorized 50 sichos and 50 maamorim by heart. Each of the 13 students received the entire set of Toras Menacham Hisvaaduyos – over seventy sefarim in all! – in appreciation of their efforts.

The project, a brainchild of the school’s administrator, Rabbi Yosef hakohen Rosenfeld, brought an added dimension of learning and enthusiasm to the beis medrash. “Many bochurim put their heart and soul into the project,” said the dean, Rabbi Elchonon Lesches. “They spent hours upon hours learning, memorizing, and then being tested by members of the hanhala.”

“This was not some dry repetition,” continues Rabbi Lesches. “Bochurim knew the subject matter verbatim and were even able to pinpoint other places in the text that speak about the same subjects. Meseches Shabbos is a very long mesechta and a fairly complex one, with very unfamiliar terms relating to clothes, cooking utensils, animal and agricultural tools etc. But nothing stopped these bochurim from their commitment to learn assiduously and succeed.”

The Beis Medrash adopted a festive atmosphere as food and drink lined the tables, and the student body sat quietly as one bochur made a siyum and another explained a topic from a maamer. The Rosh Yeshiva, Rabbi Yisrael Friedman, then commended the bochurim for their diligence and dwelled on the significance of a siyum as denoted in Meseches Shabbos – the same tractate studied by the bochurim.

Rabbi Nachman Shapiro, mashpia of the zal, spoke of the general importance of learning diverei torah verbatim, and reminisced how the Rebbe did not allow students to travel on summer Merkos Shlichus until they knew an “inyan” in nigleh and chassidus. In addition, Rabbis Gerlitzky and Bluming spoke about the Ma’aleh of learning Ba’al Peh and gave their encouragement for more bochurim to follow in this path.

Rabbi Moshe Klein, sofer stam and close friend of the yeshiva, sponsored the voluminous sets of sefarim which was presented to each bochur. This year’s prize was L’ilui N’ishmas his father, Avrohom Eliezer HaLevi Ben Shlomo, HaLevi.

Rabbi Klein spoke of his father’s hiskashrus to the Rebbe, and revealed a most astonishing yechidis that his father had with the Rebbe. With great emotion, Rabbi Klein pledged that next year, he hopes that their will be twice the amount of bochurim who will undertake such a project, and he will double he will double his contribution,

The crowd left in an uplifted mood, with renewed energy and determination to continue their successes at yeshiva and channel them into a productive summer and year of shlichus.

The bochurim who learnt Ba’al Peh this year are Eli Raskin, Menachem M. Azouly, Mendy Landa, Chaim D. Liberow, Hirschel Sputz, Levi Simpson, Scheur Z. Zouro, Rafael Andrusier, Shimon Raksin, Mendel Dubov, Ben Tzion Geisinsky, Mendel Levin & Y. Hueberman.

    in other another aspect, OT rocks, and I hear that next year the Zal will be 100% full.

    I just wish the hanhola will continue to work for achdus together, al kol ponim M’bachutz,,,,,

    but ain sofeck, Oholei TOrah Zal Rocks….

    first of all, menachem landa did a great job. dubov spoke well. as a talmid in oholei torah.
    even thogh i did not go for the mivtza i am very happy to see how moshe klein cares and gives so much money towards this beutiful project.
