What to do after a car accident:
If you are in a moving vehicle when an accident occurs, immediately and safely pull over to the side of the road, turn off your car, and turn on your hazard lights.
Check to see if anyone is hurt. If there is an injured person, do not move them until you take standard first aid measures. Place flares, cones, or triangles alongside the road a few hundred feet before the accident so traffic is aware that there is an accident ahead.
Call 911 and inform them of any injuries. If you are on a freeway and do not have access to a cell phone or telephone, check for a roadside phone that you can use.
Trade information with everyone involved in the accident. Be sure to exchange the following:
Name, address, phone number of all drivers & witnesses
Driver’s license numbers and license plate numbers
Insurance companies of all drivers involved
Registered owners of all cars
Year, model, make, etc. of all cars involved
Do not discuss what happened with anyone else but the police. Do not say that it was your fault, and do not make accusations. These comments may be used against you later. If time and accident conditions allow, take notes about your perception of what happened.
Immediately report the accident to your insurance company, and to the police if there is over a certain dollar amount in damages (depending on your state). You may find that the other driver has filed a report stating that the accident was your fault.
If you have or suspect an injury, visit a doctor right away.

this happening way too often!
Been there...
The driver of the white minivan was trying to give an excuse why he went straight through a red light so at the end he thought of an idea and said that his breaks didn’t work. Not only that but he told the woman in the other van to open her eyes and look where she’s going. He had real nerve.
It also looks like the white van got more ruined but his car looked like that before this accident occured.
It was ridiculous that the police did not arrive until an hour after the accident.

I agree that its thw white vans fault but remeber there is also the idea of defensive driving. always look before going through an intersection. Ive saved myself many times …..over…

TO: "been there"
the police always take long to respond to a car accident, it’s no surprise. if there are no injuries they take thier time respond to higher priority jobs, like disputes and what not.
by the way, i was once involved in a collision with an ambulance (i wasn’t driving though), and it took them literally over an hour to respond. no one was hurt thank g-d. so if no one is hurt, and there is no dangerous dispute going on then they assign the job as a low priority. what can ya do?
i believe though that you can also go down to the police station and make a report there as opposed to having the police come to you and do it. im not sure about it but i think so.
look carefully
att: Been there.
Did you notice that the woman driving the car is not totally not at fault in this accident? She should have been in the left lane, not the right lane if she was planning on making a left turn. (the inference that she was not in the left lane is quite obvious, the photo says it all.) At that rate, the accident may have been avoided altogether.

to look carefully:
there is only one lane on carroll street.
and in any case, how is someone who has the obvious right of way (such as a GREEN light ) responsible?
but it is true that defensive driving is the best driving!
