Drilling and Dressing
As soon as you reach the lower level of the Jewish Children’s Museum, one thing will be instantly clear to you: whatever the 80 boys of the Creative Kids Club are doing, they’re having a great time doing it! Each Monday and Wednesday the boys, ages 7 through 13, spend an hour of fun and creative expression participating in any of six extra-curricular activities including juggling, guitar and Red Cross basic training.

The sounds of amateur guitar strumming are backed by the steady rhythm of hammering from the Construction Crew class. Each of the Museum’s lower level classrooms is filled with eager young students taking part in a project or course they find stimulating. “It lets the kids channel their energy into something constructive” says CKC director Chayle Kopfstien. “They can really put themselves into something they love without the structured discipline of school.”
From one classroom comes the sharp smell of garlic. Inside, 15 boys are busy peeling and grating, chopping and spicing as they prepare salads and 5 different salad dressings. For an added touch, the boys learned how to make crunchy croutons out of French bread.
The spring session of the Creative Kids Club began on May 8th and runs through June 22nd with many exciting electives for both the boys and girls groups.
