Crown Heights has seen many events, dinners and gatherings, but Oholei Torah’s Gala Banquet and Ground Breaking ceremony this past Sunday was truly something unique and it carried a true sense of community pride and joy.

Beginning with a cocktail program the hundreds of guests had a chance to see first hand the plans for the New Mikvah, and meet with the designer of the Mikvah. Following that program, they crowd gathered in a large tent erected for the Awards ceremony and Ground Breaking.

Oholei Torah’s Ground Breaking Ceremony And Annual Dinner

Crown Heights has seen many events, dinners and gatherings, but Oholei Torah’s Gala Banquet and Ground Breaking ceremony this past Sunday was truly something unique and it carried a true sense of community pride and joy.

Beginning with a cocktail program the hundreds of guests had a chance to see first hand the plans for the New Mikvah, and meet with the designer of the Mikvah. Following that program, they crowd gathered in a large tent erected for the Awards ceremony and Ground Breaking.

Greeting the overflowing crowd was the Master of ceremonies, Meyer Eichler, an Oholei Torah Alumnus and a close friend of Shaya Boymelgreen’s. To open the event the Rebbe’s Letter was read by Rabbi Eliezer Teitelbaum, the son of Reb Michoel Teitelbaum, founder of Oholei Torah. Menachem Lehrer and Oholei Torah Talmid said a Dvar Torah both in English and in yiddish.

A most impressive list of young Crown Heights members were awarded with the prestigious Young Leadership Award, which was presented by Rabbis Joseph Rosenfeld and Nosson Blumes.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz greeted the event and gave a proclamation to the awardees

Reb Mordechai Boymelgreen spoke on behalf of the Boymelgreen family with Divrei Torah and the lives of his father and father-in-law whose memory is being perpetuated in this Mikvah Project.

A unique piece of art, made from cherry wood and silver was prepared with the Mikvah’s Logo and presented to Shaya & Sarah Boymelgreen the Dinner Chairpersons and Shaya’s Parents, Reb Mordechai and Chana Boymelgreen by Rabbi Rosenfeld.

Following the presentations, Shaya was joined with many of the Yeshiva’s friends and supporters for the actual Ground Breaking ceremony. The stone was covered by Rabbi Avrohom Osdoba who came specially for this event. During the festive Dinner following the event a Video Presentation was shown about Oholei Torah and the connection with the new project of the Mikvah Tahara.

A surprise to all the viewers was when during the video when clips were shown of the actual Ground Breaking ceremony which took place just a short while before.

Rabbi Nosson Blumes, of the Hanholas Hayeshiva, who was instrumental in organizing the event, said that today we “broke Ground” in two fashions, One with the beginning of the New Community Mikvah and second with in inauguration of the Young Leadership Committee. He thanked all those young members for their generous support and looks forward to many years to come of a close and warm relationship between them and Oholei Torah.

Wow I counted close to 5 Full beards in our Young Leaders…

the new "Face" (or as the Frierdiger Rebbe was once told Panim K’Achor…) of Crown Heights

    what a bright future!

on the bright side – a new Mikvah for the Yeshivah bachurim is a must. and finally the parents realize that they need to be activly involved in thier childrens Chinuch – and not just rely on the school

How could Rabbi Shemtov sit next to and touch Rabbi Osdaba? Isn’t Rabbi Osdabo in Cherem from the Agudas Harabonim (because he refused to come to a Din Torah) called by Rabbi Shemtov Himself??!!

  • boycotted the dinner

What an absolute disgrace that these are our "young leaders’. Shame on Oholei Torah for taxing us with having to live up to these "leaders" and demanding that our children-who we give our life for- look up to these "role models". We all know that money is everything but at least some of us are still clinging to what we believe in and boycotted the dinner. Our sincere hopes that next year there will still be more short beards for you to honor!! WHAT TO GO!!

  • FOR UNITY IN THE COMMUNITY

    GET A LIFE BERL.

THANK G-D THIS ARTICLE WAS GREETED WITH COMMENTS THAT PRAISED THE UNITY, ACHDUS, AND RESPECT THAT THE ARTICLE AND PICTURES PORTRAYED.

ISN’T THIS WHAT WE ALL WANT RATHER THAN MORE MACHLOKES????

  • Blessings

We are proud of our leaders coming together. Blessings come to our community when there is peace. It is a lesson for all of us to live peacefully with our neighbors.

  • Ultimate Peace

    TO axced and acd;

It seems as thought you two can’t fargin, and something is really bothering you. Rabbi Osdoba is a Rov and deserves respect, if you can’t do that then just keep negative comments away. OT groundbreaking ceremony was beautiful and R. Blumes keep up the great work!
