Purim at Penn!

There was a Megillah reading party at the Alpha Epsilon Pi house on the campus of Drexel University attended by the members of AEPi and the Jewish girls “ABY” Society.

Later that evening, some 15 students (some in costume) gathered in the front of the freshmen Quadrangle to distribute some 400 packets of Mishloach Manot to the freshmen there. The response from the students was very positive.

At the same time the festivities took off at CopaBanana, where the Megillah was constantly being read outsides due to the overflow crowd at the venue.
Scores of people were heard drowning out Haman’s name on 40th Street at 1am on a week night.

The Baal Shem Tov band performed with lead singer Benny Schmidt and many people came in costume and received tickets for an IPod Raffle which took place at the carnival the next day.

In the daytime, as well as during the night, Lubavitch House organized Megillah readings in the local hospital.

At the POUR SOME PURIM ON ME IV – Annual Purim carnival, which was co sponsored by over 10 campus orgnizations (among them: SDT, AEPi, PiKAPP, THETA, SAE, COLLGE DEMOCRATES, TEP, THEOS and JHP). There were games to play like Twister, Throwing darts, Ballon shaving, Three card monte, Kidi Beirut, Facepanting and more.

There was a performance by the Baal Shem Tov band with a guest musician, Simcha Kantor from Morristown NJ, as well as a Magic Show by one of the amazing students Magician Barry Silver.

Students competed in a cake eating contest which was won by the TEP representative. Free sushi was being served constantly. A Mishloach Manot table with information about the Purim Holiday as well as Tefillin for people who wanted to don them was active.

A Megillah reading took place every hour on the hour as well as occasionally even on the half hour and as many as 10 students on average participating in the readings.

The carnival was fundraiser for charity in line with the practice to give charity to the poor on Purim. The proceeds of each co sponsoring organization as well as the proceeds from the Raffle on the Ipod and the donated Passes to the bridge theater were dontated to Collel Chabad, a humanitarian assistance organzation in Israel (http://www.colelchabad.org/)

Hundreds of students attended the carnival and other Purim events this year sponsored by Lubavitch House at Penn.
