WASHINGTON, DC — The Obama administration is taking steps quietly to shut down the program that qualifies commercial airline pilots to carry firearms in jetliner cockpits in order to ward off another 9/11-type attack.

The administration recently diverted $2 million from a program to train and certify pilots to carry firearms safely while on duty. Instead, it is using the money to hire additional field inspectors to help discipline pilots who step out of line, according to a report in Tuesday’s Washington Times.

A Times editorial condemned the Obama administration’s action, calling it “completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots.”

    If we are gilgulim, and Saddam Hussein thought he was a reincarnation of Nebuchadnezzar – then who knows who Obama is? One thing’s for sure, he aint your average redneck Joe.

    He seems to side towards the baddies. Something unusual over here. But as “The heart of the kings is in the hand of Hashem” – we have to be confident that this is all the way that Moshiach has to come!

    Before everyone flips out, lets review the facts. I support the idea of pilots carrying weapons, but I cannot say that there have been no problems. Back in March there was a case where a pilots gun accidentally discharged in the middle of a flight (http://www.wcnc.com/news/to…).
    As per Mr Holder’s view that interrogation techniques as outright torture, many others share his view. And to what was he referring in specific?
    Regarding Mr. Cheney, last time I checked he was one of the biggest pushers of the war in Iraq. The search for weapons of mass destruction was used to justify the invasion. None have been found.

    rdz, the incident to which you refer was directly caused by the stupid FAA regulation requiring pilots to disarm their guns with a lock before landing, and unlock them after takeoff. The lock mandated by the FAA has such a stupid design that it’s a wonder there haven’t been more such accidents.

    Many people may share Holder’s view, but that doesn’t make them right. Many people share Osama bin Laden’s view too.

    The Congressional resolution authorising military action in Iraq listed over a dozen reasons. One of them was indeed the fact that Saddam Hussein was not complying with the requirement that he prove he wasn’t producing weapons of mass destruction; that was 100% true – he was not complying. This led to the natural suspicion that he did have a weapons development program; once again that is 100% true – the documents found prove it. Since he was devoting massive resources to developing these weapons, and was not allowing inspectors free access, everyone in the world, including everybody in the Iraqi military, concluded that the weapons already existed. So what happened to them? That remains a mystery. My guess is that Saddam was being scammed, and the scientists who were meant to be developing the weapons were putting the money in Swiss bank accounts and producing a lot of nothing. But nobody knew that, including Saddam himself, or he’d have killed them. But we still don’t know what was on the truck convoy that went to Syria shortly before the invasion.

    In any case, that was only one of the long list of reasons for the invasion. If you haven’t noticed, it was successful. We have WON the war in Iraq; Iraq is now safer and more democratic than Chicago, we have verified that it is no longer developing WMD, it is no longer financing international terrorism, we’re no longer forced to impose the draconian regime of sanctions we had in place, or to have our forces sitting in Saudi Arabia, enraging Moslems, just to keep Saddam “contained”. Al Qaeda fought us in Iraq and was thoroughly defeated, its ranks have been decimated, and that’s one reason we haven’t had any terrorist attacks in America since 2001. Dick Cheney is to a large extent responsible for this success, and we owe him a huge debt of thanks.

    You know, as a pilot, I’m a little confused. I’ve been hearing this “gun ban” story. Yesterday, I heard “do you hear what Obama is planning” from my copilot. As he asked that question, my Colt was in my bag in the compartment above my head.

    This afternoon, I’m in a hotel room with my laptop. (We don’t fly out for another four hours.) I’m reading this story everywhere, but it all seems to track back to the Washington Times. That, and other blogs, are the only sources I’m finding.

    In my email, there’s nothing to tell me that my gun can’t go with me. Don’t even have one of those twice-a-week emails telling me that there’s new paperwork I have to fill out.

    And then I found this on Fox News.

    I’m thinking that somebody at the Moonie Times got his wires crossed. There doesn’t seem to be anything to this story.

    (And you know something? That FAA lock ain’t that bad. But it IS the reason my gun goes in the compartment.)

    Read the article. It says every six months you have to recertify. That course is run by the government. If Obama decides not to spend any money on running the course, then you won’t be able to recertify, and therefore won’t be able to continue carrying. Capisce?
