DNEPROPETROVSK, Ukraine [FJC] — The two largest hospitals in the east Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk – the Regional Clinical Hospital named for Metchnikov and the Third Children’s Municipal Hospital – have received much-welcomed assistance from the U.S.-based organization “Action in Support of Post-Soviet Jewry” (otherwise known as ‘Action for Post-Soviet Jewry’).

“These hospitals have received [the donated] sets of necessary tools. Presented to the Regional Clinical Hospital named for Metchnikov were orthopedic tools and necessary instruments for neurosurgery, making implants, many materials for anesthesia, and other much needed supplies for the hospitals,” explained Jan Sidelkovsky, the Coordinator of Joint Projects between the Boston Jewish Community and the Jewish community of Dnepropetrovsk. “Substantial assistance was also provided to the municipal children’s hospital”.

At a meeting held at the Dnepropetrovsk Synagogue, Jan Sidelkovsky was pleased to present such aid from the community’s friends in the U.S. “Alexander Loskutov and Igor Macedonskiy, the Chief Physician at the Third Children’s Municipal Hospital, requested to convey their deepest gratitude to the organization ‘Action for Post-Soviet Jewry’ and its Executive Director, Julie Patkin, for this priceless gift,” expressed Jan Sidelkovsky.

The Jewish Community of Dnepropetrovsk is a leading member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Ukraine. It enjoys a lengthy and ongoing relationship with the Boston Jewish Community, whose assistance has benefited thousands of local Jews over the years.
