Kosher Meat Market Widens

DNEPROPETROVSK, Ukraine [FJC] — The Dnepropetrovsk-based ‘AS’ Company, a leading producer of kosher meat in this part of eastern Ukraine, has announced the provision of its new service – the delivery of its products to customers’ homes.

Thanks to this development, it is now possible for anyone to order frozen meat or sausages from this provider, prepared in accordance with the law of Kashrut, for delivery directly to them in the comfort of their homes. These food products have also received a Kosher certificate.

The cost of delivery is modest, at just 30 hryvnia (approximately 5 U.S. dollars) to anywhere in Dnepropetrovsk.

Kosher meat is, of course, subject to very particular requirements. The animal must be completely healthy, and all procedures must be carefully undertaken with qualified supervision. All ingredients in the meat’s preparation are also thoroughly checked. In this regard, the price of kosher meat is nearly always above the average market price for regular non-kosher meat, which obviously does not provide such high-quality control of products.

Launched in 2006 with a selection of just four kinds of sausages, the ‘AS’ company currently produces four kinds of boiled-smoked sausages, five kinds of boiled sausages, two kinds of weiners, in addition to sausages, smoked beef and chicken, and a variety of other meat products.

The ‘AS’ Food Company enjoys its well-deserved recognition and is currently engaged in supplying products to many Jewish communities across Ukraine, as well as to commercial and other clients in Moscow.

    To me too:

Strictly speaking, there’s no such thing as a “non-kosher cut” – any part of an animal can be prepared kosher, just that as a practical matter that’s usually not done for certain cuts because the cleaning involved (of fats, nerves, blood vessels, etc.) is too extensive. But in principle, as far as I know, there’s nothing preventing AS Food Co. from producing kosher T-bone steaks or the like.

Perhaps so. But tell me, when was the last time you walked in to a kosher butcher and saw Bottom Round or NY-cut Sirloin? None of the big schlachthausen offer anything back of the 12th rib to the kosher market. Ergo, you will not see it at the store on the corner.
