Targeted Arrests, A Good Way Of Weathering Crime
This afternoon [Monday] at approximately 5:10pm, a white station wagon was pulled over by a plainclothes police unit on Albany Ave. between Eastern Parkway and Union Street. The two officers then jumped out of their cars, approached the driver, and after a quick cursory check of the vehicle, the driver was asked to step out, searched, cuffed, and put in the back of the unmarked vehicle. The police then parked the suspect’s vehicle and drove of with the suspect without ‘lights & sirens’.
All this took place in the span of about 2 minutes, maybe a little less. It looks like they knew who they were after, and came prepared. IY”H more criminals will be put away in a timely fashion, and we will be able to once again walk our streets without the fear of being attacked or mugged.
Once again, if you see anything suspicious going on, do not hesitate to call Shomrim anytime of the day night. There are units patrolling at all hours who just need to be told where to respond. The Hotline number is (718) 774-3333.

hey webby, didn’t u mention something a few months ago about infading ppl’s privacy and by NOT taking pictures or wtvr. well, wouldn’t this pass as kind of invading their privacy? i mean, u said that nobody knew u were taking the pictures, so then i dont understand why you would have to hide and sneek around for something like that?
Please explain me the reason for this. thank you kindly!
hadassa
omg! who is up at 5:10 in the morning taking pictures!!? they must really be ummm bored lol.

haddasa:
The article says 5:10 "PM" [meaning the evening PM not AM]
#1 girl:
My last statement about invading someone’s privacy was related to a man who was struck by a car and was being treated by Hatzalah on the street. Which in itself isn’t an invasion of privacy, since it is all taking place on the street. What I said back then was I didn’t feel right taking those pictures.
But this is an entirely different case, this is a criminal getting arrested, there is no form of privacy invasion here. And anyways the pictures are so bad that you really can’t see anything other then some lights some cars and some people.
Muki
Why was this guy arrested?
What did he do?
you suck
dont just afend yourself webby

to webby:
I think you are correct, but to better explain what you’re saying, both cases could be invasion of privacy. And thats why you cannot see the guys face, his name and other personnal info are not posted either. In that other story the pictures whould have given it all away, an invasion of privacy.
And did you take those pictures, because I didnt see you there.

wow wow wow!! webby wat is wrong with you like seriously?? ure telling that the guy whowas stuck by a car on eastern parkway or whereever it was, u took pictures but u felt bad about it!? i mean come on, thats alittle bit mean no?
and now ure saying that ”criminals” dont deserve any privacy? how does that make sense? there still human beings and i think that they deserve as much privacy as me and you.
and if C”v a young boy or girl were to get killed on the street, there are many ppl around and its on the streets so do figure that just b/c its outside, u have the right to go and snap pictures of them? im srry but with all due respect i think u r totaly wrong about this one!

To #1 girl:
What I beleive webby is trying to say two things here.
#1. There is no legal problem related to ‘invasion of privacy’ in both of these cases.
#2. In some cases there is an ethical ‘privacy invasion’ related problem, such as a victim of a car accident.
Anything happening in public, is open to the public and can be portayed be the media. ‘Private information’ however may not be given out. There is however an ethical issue involved of wheather it is right to take pictures of someone when they are at such a vulnerable moment, (at their time of need).
Therefore in most (if not all) cases when see images of car accidents posted here, the victims are not photographed, and if they are in a picture you cannot make out who they are. However in this case being that we are dealing with a criminal, he didn’t feel it was wrong to post a picture portraying that "criminals get caught in the end".
Even if there is an ethical problem in this case, it is circumvented by the fact that the pictures are so unclear making it impossible to make out any personal (private) information about the subject from them.

sr41:
I was not the one who took the pictures and I was not present during this incident.
Invasion of privacy had a very fine line to when you overstep it. Never have I overstepped it, in my opinion.
#1 girl:
The man who was struck by the car if you remember I did not take any pictures of him, I took a single picture of the Hatzalah Ambulance leavening the scene. And in no way did I cross the ethical privacy line. So no I don’t feel bad about it, since I didn’t do it.
Criminals don’t deserve privacy (in my opinion), all their information should be made publicly available, and they are, under the “Freedman of Information Act”, all records, criminal, court or anything else, you can get to it. News papers are allowed to publish names ages and pictures (so long they are over 18). And in case you didn’t notice the newspapers always write “alleged” because the only thing the criminal can come after the paper for is defamation, but once you write “alleged” you aren’t accusing and cannot be sued.
And once again, if C”V a child was struck by a car and got seriously injured or worse C”V I would be there to report what happened but I would NEVER take a picture that would hurt the family or invade the privacy of the victim, as I never have.
Bystander:
Thank you that is a part of what I am saying. But if I had better pictures of this incident I wouldn’t hesitate to post them. A criminal is a criminal, just like what ive done to Derrick Nelson the “alleged” car robber.
miki
i dont no why all you people are driving webby crazy, he does such a good job that even if he did somthing wrong[which i dont think he ever did], we would forgive him, so evrybody stop going crazy, and you webby, keep up the good work. thank you very much.

to #1 girl, do u have your head on straight? or are you just trying to make problems? (which would also mean your head is not on straight).
seriously, what is wrong with you? did you notice that you are the only one who keeps saying bad stuff on this article? everyone agrees with webby (including me). besides that, your opinion is so twisted, if somone you knew was mugged, or thier car was stolen, would you still feel that the criminal who did it was a normal human being? would you not want him to pay for it????
START THINKING STRAIGHT!
and to webby, YOUR THE MAN! KEEP IT UP!
sr41
Webby, I thought I’d help you out – I apologies if I wrote anything wrong – I think your later point as well as bystanders were right to the point.
wtvr
what ever happened to ‘innocent until proven guilty’???
1girl
to shmuly:
alright listen, first of all i DO have my head on straight, and i certainly do not appreciate you critisizing me! i feel that it is very rude.
and a criminal is a criminal but he/she is still human. i mean if C”v i was robbed or something, 100%i would want him/her to be put in jail or to be punished for wat they did. but that is not my point here. my point is that webby should just respect the privacy of others. yes including criminals if thats how u want to put it.
and it doesn’t seem like i am the only person talking about this topic. incase u haven’t noticed there are about 5 or 6 other ppl discussing it as well. i would appreciate it greatly if u were to talk to me nicely about this article, and not act like a child!
Thank you.

to wtvr:
If someone is targeted for arrest, it probably means that they were already proven guilty.
hay!!!
that does not make sense!!!
Shmuly
to #1girl, sorry for critisizing you but you make me so upset when you write stuff like that (do you EVEN live in ch??)
2nd, i didnt ask you if you think the criminal should be put in jail. i asked you (or more like told you) that if something like that happened to you, if someone robbed you c"v or whatever then you would forsure want them to pay to the fullest extent, you would be so upset that you would have it on the news if you could!
3rd, i did NOT say that you are the only person writing about this stuff (READ CAREFULLY) i said you are the only person with such a twisted opinion!
I HOPE YOU READ THIS BETTER THEN HOW YOU READ WHAT I WROTE BEFORE OR WE WILL JUST GO IN CIRCLES.
thanks.
miki
hay now!! evrybody take a deep breth and calm down.
thank you very much.
1girl
wow wow wow. i keep explaining to you that this is NOT only about me or anyone else, this is about the ”criminal” or wtvr u want to call it himself! no i dont live in crown heights, but if i did that would be totaly irrelevent to the topic. crime happens all over the world not only in crown heights. and i dont understand why u r getting all upset about this, is it b/c u agree with me in a way but this is just ure way of kind of covering it up? or do u really honestly believe that criminals should not be treated like humans? im not saying that they shouldn’t be punished for the crime they may or may not have commited, all im saying is that they should be treated like human beings just like everyone else. and as for me i would NOT want their faces to be shown all over the news or on webistes like this, i would want them to pay for the crime they commited. big difference!
how would u feel if C”v there was a man out there someone like michael jackson for example, i mean anyone who can be as sick as he is should definetly be put in jail or something. although many people believe that he is indeed a child molester, hes still running around as free as a bird, when he should probably be put in jail! and believe me there are plenty of other ppl out there, all over the world just like him. but unfortunatly, either nobody knows about it or noone is saying anything to anyone.
but as u said, someone like that someone like a ”criminal” i guess should be behind bars, and be all over the news. i guess thats the only way to give them attention:}
dfgh
shmuly: it looks to me like your the one making probs!!!!!!!!
wtvr
hate to break this to u but unless u know the law ‘innocent until proven guilty by a federal court!!!!’
get ur facts straight-i know a woman who was mugged in front of her house and the guy was chased by police for one reason-she knew the license plate of the car.
he then had to be taken to court!!
1girl
To dfgh:
see!? all im trying to say to ppl is that everyone has the rights to their own opinion. and i think he is taking it the wrong way.
just relax shmuly! nobody is out to get you. this is just a comment board, not a divorce court :P
shmuly
LOL.
sr41
Shmuly, I like your last coment "LOL". I dont think that arguement was going anywhere, hopefully its over.
BRHS girl
WHo is this guy?
What did he do?
please answer me

BRHS girl:
this guys name is shmuly, he has been writing comments here lately bout people’s privacy and how criminals dont deserve any. that they should be treated like u know…:P.
and i was just trying to explain to him that they have to be punished for the crime they commited if they did indeed commit it, but at the same time be treated with respect just incase they haven’t done the crime.

#1 girl:
No you understood me wrong.
