Colel Chabad International Awards Dinner

Colel Chabad, the oldest continuously operating Tzedakah in Israel, celebrated its International Awards Dinner in the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton last night.

United Soup Kitchens chairman, Arthur Luxinburg presented Mayor Bloomberg with a silver Pushka in recognition of his support for Israel. Luxinburg ended off by putting a $20 bill in the Pushka saying it may help put off the subway strike.

The program started off with the invocation including the Rebbe’s Kapital read by Sholom M. Rubashkin of Postville, Iowa and the prayer for the nation written by the Friediker Rebbe read by Mayor John Hyman of Postville.

Following was a magnificent video which was produced especially for the evening. Rabbi Sholom Duchman, Director of Colel Chabad gave his annual Shareholder’s Report which was accompanied by a slide show of pictures, facts and figures.

Colel Chabad honored Rusel and Ronale Galbut as Guests of Honor. The Founders Award was presented to Heshy and Basya Rubashkin. The Rofeh Cholim Award and Chessed Award was presented to brothers, Dr. Morris and Norma Anteby and Victor and Nadia Anteby respectively.

Special greetings was delivered by Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Amar and there was delightful entertainment by world-renowned Cantor Helfgot.

In the spirit of the Rebbe who continually stressed, “When two Jews come together the first thing to come to their minds should be how they can help a third Jew”, this celebration will surely benefit thousands of Jews.
