RABBI CHAYIM MISHULOVIN stocks Everything Jewish for its Dec. 5 opening.

Everything Jewish opens Dec. 5 in the former Starbooks location at 6684 S.W. Capitol Highway, Portland.

Rabbi Chayim Mishulovin, who moved to Portland in April with his wife Simi to run Chabad youth programs, will oversee the store's operation. The store will offer a 10 percent discount for its first 10 days of operation with details available in the store, said Mishulovin.

Mishulolvin emphasized the store was not created to compete with other stores but is designed to further Chabad's mission of bringing everything Jewish into the community. Chabad attempts to make Judaism affordable by providing items at reasonable cost. He said all profits will go back into the store.

RABBI CHAYIM MISHULOVIN stocks Everything Jewish for its Dec. 5 opening.

Everything Jewish opens Dec. 5 in the former Starbooks location at 6684 S.W. Capitol Highway, Portland.

Rabbi Chayim Mishulovin, who moved to Portland in April with his wife Simi to run Chabad youth programs, will oversee the store’s operation. The store will offer a 10 percent discount for its first 10 days of operation with details available in the store, said Mishulovin.

Mishulolvin emphasized the store was not created to compete with other stores but is designed to further Chabad’s mission of bringing everything Jewish into the community. Chabad attempts to make Judaism affordable by providing items at reasonable cost. He said all profits will go back into the store.

He said that Chabad’s worldwide connections provide buying power to enable the store to stock items at reasonable prices.

Mishulovin is no stranger to the retail world. His father, a Chabad rabbi in Los Angeles, has operated a Judaic gift shop for about 30 years. Mishulovin said that gift shops are now a strong part of Chabad’s presence around the world, but his father’s was one of the first stores.

“Instead of a synagogue, he has a gift shop,” said Mishulovin. “But it’s a place people stop by to talk with the rabbi there all day. It’s more like an information center.”

Mishulovin said he plans to follow that model and be available to provide information as well as products ranging from ritual objects to toys. An anonymous donor provided funding to stock the store, he said. He said if someone is having trouble finding any Jewish item locally, he will try to order it.

The store will be open 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Sunday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday. For more information, call Mishulovin at 503-246-5437.

the rebbe never said that you cant use a round menora!

the discussion is about the menora in the BEIS HAMIKDOSH!

  • to mike bloomberg

you are wrong. it says there that for the same resons you should not use it as a menorah. further more the rebbe in that sicha says that a round menorah is a victory to the romans.

Mike Bloomberg makes a good point.
From the plain sicha it’s understood as he says, except that there is an h’oreh (foot note) there that says that the same rule applies by Chanukah menorahs aswell.
But it still seems from the sicha that the “main” problem is with drawings of the menorah of the "bais hamikdosh". For it is actually forbidden for the chanukah menorah to look exactly like the menorah in the bais hamikdosh
(That however won’t be a problem since the Chanukah menorah’s has 8 branches & the menorah in the bais hamikdosh had 7).
