A pair of armed bandits dressed as FedEx workers fast-talked their way into a Diamond District jewelry business yesterday and pulled off a brazen $4 million stickup.

Brandishing guns and plastic handcuffs, the robbers were in and out of Doppelt & Greenwald Diamonds, a sixth-floor jewelry wholesaler at Fifth Ave. and W. 47th St., in just a few minutes.

“They knocked on the window and said it was a delivery,” a police source said. “They said they needed a signature, so an employee buzzed them in.”

The robbers used the handcuffs to bind five employees and two customers, police said. Then they scooped loose diamonds and watches into duffel bags and fled, according to cops. No one was hurt in the 12:30 p.m. robbery.

Witnesses described one suspect as heavy-set and the other as having dyed red hair. After they fled, one of the employees quickly untied himself and called police.

Heavily armed Emergency Service Unit officers and cops using police dogs flooded the building, hoping to snare the robbers.

“I saw like four, five cops rush in,” said Muhammad Abbasi, a jewelry retailer. “They said, ‘We’re trying to get somebody.’ “

Police shut off W. 47th St. between Fifth and Sixth Aves., but made no arrests. Police said it’s not clear how the bandits fled the area and cops were seen checking FedEx trucks nearby.

At least one security camera captured the slick suspects inside the building, a police official said.

The images were being reviewed late yesterday, so it wasn’t immediately clear whether they’ll be useful in the investigation, the official said.

In March, two masked men held an employee at gunpoint and snatched more than $5 million in precious stones and jewelry from the Diamart Inc. on W. 45th St. in the Diamond District.

The suspects in that case also claimed to be FedEx workers and employees buzzed them past the locked security doors.

Police acknowledged the similarities, but said it’s too early to tell whether the heists are connected.

A manager at Doppelt & Greenwald declined comment late yesterday.
