Oholei Torah Administration Responds to the Accidents

After the 2 accidents involving students from the school [one on a bike, the other was 2 walking home on Shabbos] the administration put up a peculiar note on the “Zal” billboard.

i read on the bottom that they do not want to "involve" the local police… if they mean that they do not want crossing guards or the like then that is so stupid! ohlei torah is a huge school full of small children (including family of mine)… every morning and every late afternoon hundreds of these kids pile outside …. they should close off that whole block to keep these kids safe! teachers and "older bochurim" are not enough. do they have a crossing guard? they should have a police car sit outside just to make sure, they should close the entrance to the side street etc.
anywayz, just giving my opinions

I can let you know that every day when the talmidim go to and come home from yeshiva, there are crossing guards. On the days that there are no crossing guards there are privately hired crossing guards. as for closing the street, after much effort, the past few years the service lane is closed for the time when the children are being dissmissed.

the administration put up a peculiar note on the “Zal” billboard.

They put up almost [if not] an identical sign approximately four years ago, hence the peculiarity of it…

The intersection is dangerous for anyone, not just children. One snowy night in ’03, when I was in Zal there, I got hit by a turning car, exactly like that kid on the bike. OT should send the sign to the DOT. LOL!

Why can’t the NYPD just go ahead and protect the children without being asked officially? Or why doesn’t the Oholei Torah administration use teachers as crossing guards? After all, they aren’t unioinized!

crown hts activist:
1: according to the law[i think], NYPD only have to do things when they’r asked.
2: it’s not part of the teachers job to stand on corners and be crossing guards.[as that is not a very respecteble job,]
3: if your an activist as you claim, to be why don’t you go and be a crossing guard.
