Menorah Starts Fire in A Home on Montgomery St
CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] – Around 12:00am this Motzoai Shabbos a fire broke out in a Jewish home on Montgomery Street between New York and Brooklyn Avenues, the cause of which is blamed on a Chanukah Menorah.
The house, which was empty at the time, had a Menorah next to a couch and somehow fell and ignited the couch. A Bochur who was passing by noticed the fire and called 911, who responded within moments and had the fire under control immediately thereafter.

PEOPLE PLEASE BE CAREFULL WITH THE MINORAH!

Was anyone in the house at the time when it caught on fire ?
what-s up with unattened candles
it seems they left the menorah burning unattended. If so, let this remind everyone to burn out their candles after 1/2 hour if you’re going out.

Thank G-d no one was hurt, but we should NEVER leave a fire unattended, whether it is Channkukah or Shabbos candles.

Hi,
I would never leave my menorah near something that can catch fire, I use a mini table and I make sure to keep it away from anything.
And its really up to hashem whatever happens…

Responsiblity
It is a minhag to leave it for 50 minutes, but the minimum is 30 minutes, and the most important thing is to not leave the candles unattended. So if you must leave the house after Menorah, then wait at least 30 minutes before doing so, and then you MUST extinguish them! B"h no one was hurt here, but it could have ch"v been a tragedy. To the person who said that it is up to Hashem… that is true, but we as people are still obligated to act in a safe and responsible manner.
