Retired NYPD Officer Dies In Crown Heights Fire

A retired NYPD officer was identified as the victim of a Union Street fire Monday afternoon, a blaze that brought firetrucks and news helicopters to the community.
The fire broke out around 2:00pm at 1760 Union Street between Utica and Rochester Aves. Firefighters arrived quickly and quelled the flames within an hour. The victim was discovered deceased inside his apartment.
The police announced the 76 year old’s death but declined to identify the victim by name.
The cause of the fire has not been announced.
