Computer Causes Fire in a CH Building

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — At around 1:00 in the afternoon today a fire broke out in an apartment on the first floor of 706 Eastern Parkway. The apartment was that of the superintended of the building who told CrownHeights.info that he was using his computer when smoke started coming out of it and before he knew it the whole room was engulfed in flames and smoke.

More pictures in the Extended Article.

Residents in the building called everyone from 911 to Hatzalah and even Shomrim, and had firefighters respond within moments of the fire breaking out and within 9 minutes had all visible flames put out.

The building quickly filled with thick hot smoke which threw residents into panic and they were seen on the fire escapes trying to get out of the building. Fire Fighters, Hatzalah and Shomrim members climbed up the escapes in order to help those with kids and the elderly make their way down.

Firefighters then went to work on the walls and ceilings of the apartment in order to make sure there was no smoldering wood or anything else still aflame

706 Eastern Parkway is 150 ft x 90 ft, was built in 1935 and is not a fireproof building. It houses around 45 families.

Ness of the Rebbe 38 years ago and now

The famous story of the 9 bochurim saved by the Rebbe from a horrific fire which trapped 3 bochurim in a station-wagon into which an 18-wheeler crashed, happened on this day, Ches Tammuz.

Around midnight, a few hours before the crash of the station wagon, the Rebbe suddenly instructed to publish the landmark sicha (of Achron Shel Pesach 5729) about strengthening the shchuna and added a few passages about “noch a sraifo vert men reich” (riches follows a fire) because Rachmim follows Din. The next morning when Rabbi Groner told the Rebbe about the crash and fire, the Rebbe responded that he had them in mind when he wrote last night about a fire (that is followed by rachmim)!

On Ches Tammuz this year, this Kuntres about the shchuna, with the hosofos quoting “kedoshay elyon” about Rachmim following a fire, saved people in a building in the shchuna which houses 40 families of anash.

B’hashgocha Protis – the huge number on the Fire Chief’s van is 38! (possibly hinting to the ness of 38 years ago !).

The building is a sewer, and the landlord is a rat. What a shame taht building is teh best location in CH and they ran in into the ground.. If there was yoisher the communitty would get the building from teh fat cat that owns it but lives on Long Island. In williamsburgh they would know what to do with such a guy
