Pre-Dawn Blaze Displaces Elderly Couple
An early morning fire on Crown Street today displaced an elderly Crown Heights couple and sent two people to the hospital.
The incident occurred at around 5:00 AM at the home of Rabbi Yankel and Chasye Winter, which is located on Crown St. between Kingston and Brooklyn Ave.
The Fire Department, Hatzolah and Shomrim all swiftly responded to the emergency call, and about a half hour later the fire was subdued. Rabbi Winter was taken to Kings County hospital for smoke inhalation, along with one firefighter who sustained light injuries.
A Bochur who lives the couple’s basement apartment escaped the house unharmed.
