3-Alarm-Fire Rips Through Laundromat
CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A fire which burned for over 2 hours completely decimated a Laundromat, sending plumes of smoke covering Crown Heights with the acrid smell.
The fire was first reported at approximately 10:30am and was placed under control at 12:30pm.
10’s of FDNY fire companies responded and operated on the fire. Firefighters were forced to combat the flames from outside due to the heavy smoke and part of the roof collapsing on them.
In total 4 man operated water lines, 2 bucket truck water lines, and 2 multiversal water lines dumped water on the fire for the two hours it burned.
Hashem preserve us!
That place always looked like a tinderbox.

The Economy is Real Bad
When buisness is down, sometimes it leaves them with no other option.
Good times
I remember doing my laundry there my first Tishrei in Crown Heights 32 years ago, got to witness an armed robbery at the bodega across the street (it’s still there too), good times…

“What is the table with some sort of board that has small different color squares on it-black blue orange red etc.?”
I suspect that it’s an assignment board, with each square representing a different firefighter, and the color denoting company or whatever.
The point would be to keep track of who’s doing what at the fire, and to keep the number of people leaving equal to the number of people going in. :-)
Just a suggestion
They shoulda called Ahron Odell to clean out the lint!
A little thought...
How about giving some thought to the wonderful people whose business just went up in flames..they happen to be extremely nice people..I doubt they have the same feeling about the pictures.
Fan of the Hood!

These fire fighters are amazing people! How many of us would willingly go into a burning building? Kol hakovod to them.

Elsworth is the sweetest man alive, he made me look forward to doing my laundry since I would get to see his smiling face. Anywhere else I will go to do laundry won’t be half as pleasant, I am sure.
You people accusing him of insurance fraud, saying “nice pictures” and making coarse jokes make me literally ill. But that’s what happens on the net: people say all kinds of things they wouldn’t dare utter in polite company.

How sad. I remember it always had the most wonderful smell in the summer — I hope that everyone was alright and that the owners are able to recover their livelihood.

I agree with comments 14, 24 & 30. The owner is a very sweet and kind guy.A real mentch. People u should be ashamed to make such nasty comments and accusations. You wouldn’t want someone making accusations if u had a fire in your home chas veshalom. Thank you FDNY.

Think about what you say before you say it…..could be your problem one day. Elsworth was there for many years. Wait and see before you judge someone. You might have to walk with your head down not up with pride as he did. Think about the sick people (your neighbors) that has been displaced because of the fire. Gods blessings to all of them.
