Morning Fire Forces Large Evacuation

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A fire broke out this morning in a large apartment building on Montgomery Street, and forcing the evacuation of portions of the building.

The fire was first reported in an apartment on the second floor of 1004 Montgomery Street on the corner of Utica Avenue, and was later found to have started in a storefront on the street, and extended up in the residential portions of the building.

Firefighters took nearly 25 minutes to take control of the fire and put it out. There were no reported injuries.

The building has 68 apartments and 6 storefronts, and is owned by the Sperlin family. The building has no Jewish tenants.
