Investigators with the New York City Fire Department say an electric griddle is to blame for last week’s deadly three-alarm fire in Brooklyn.

They say the griddle was left on, igniting a wooden counter in the kitchen at a home on Avenue P in Midwood Wednesday night.

Avigdor Krasny, 8, was trapped by the flames and pronounced dead at the hospital.

Three other boys and two girls were pulled from the fire and taken to the hospital.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries.

  • Safety first

Don’t be cheap on them get the best in my opinion First Alert is the best.

Don’t cover your electric blech with silver-foil this can cause electric static that can create a fire; blech should be on a wide stable surface.

As per comment # 2 counter top should be marble or metal or use an aluminum blech in between the counter and the electric blech.

Open flames from candles or stove top; make sure there aren’t any fans blowing in the direction of the flames.
If you light candles next to a window make sure the window is shut and remains shut until the candles are out.

Candles or candelabra should be placed on a metal surface (metal platter).
