Manholes Explode Leaving Residents without Electricity Overnight

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — A series of manhole explosions rocked Kingston Avenue between Empire Boulevard and Lefferts Avenue last night, knocking out power to a number of buildings and leaving behind the arcid smell of burnt copper and rubber.

ConEdison emergency repair crews were working overnight to replace defective cables and equipment which failed due to the strong heat and power demand which cased the shorts that subsequently exploded.

No one was injured, but one Jewish owned car was seriously damaged after the heat that rose from one of the manholes it was parked above.

Thank G-d, if something was supposed to explode, it was only a manhole cover and nobody got injured. Yesterday was Aug. 19, a day in Crown Heights history when there was a much worse “explosion”.
