Today [Sunday] at around 12:30pm a fire broke out in a house on Lincoln Pl. between Kingston & Albany. The fire quickly spread throughout the entire house, making it particularly difficult for FDNY to put it out without much damage.
The house belonging the a non Jewish family is attached to a house owned and occupied by Jews, which sustained damage from the fire and from the fire department, who tore up the walls to make sure that the fire was completely out.
There was an enormous response, over 12 FDNY trucks, ambulance’s and even an ancient “cherry picker” type truck responded. It appeared from the fire crews on scene that the fire initially started due to faulty wiring in an electrical space heater.
This would be a proper time to warn all of our readers to take extra caution with space heaters. Do not to leave any clothes, towels etc.. to dry next to the heater, and It would be wise to turn the heater off when leaving the house.

this is a good time to remind everyone that chanuka is next week and fires happens latley around town there were fliers about fire saftey
chanuka safety
Let’s remember to be very cautious around the menorah this year.
Keep children away from fire, don’t allow playing with the candles, or near the menoras.
Keep all flamable items at least four feet away from the menoras in all directions, including; curtains, papers, clothing, etc…
Make sure to keep an eye out for the menoras, and don’t leave them burning unattended (a menorh could C"V catch on fire on its own etc.).
If you’re going to sleep, it might be a good idea to extiguish the flames first (, I pesonally know of stories where menoras cauht on fire on the midle of the night).
Be very careful with regard to what you place the menorah on top of. Don’t let it sit precariously or on a wobbly surface (upon which might be able to tip C"V).
Be extra cautious when walking around the menorah not to let any clothing get caught on to the menorah or caught on fire C"V, as well as to not bump into it (being that it is in the doorway).
Chanukah is a time of hapiness and rejoicing, let’s not let it be spoiled by a tragic event C"V.

PS to all those interested, there was no coffee!!
There were COLD drinks for the firemen who just came out of the flaming blaze. When these guys took off their uniforms there was seam rising from their shirts! I don’t think any of them wanted hot coffee.
