Senior Wellness Fair Coming to Lefferts Park This Wednesday — A Day of Resources, Support, and Fun for Older Adults and Families

Seniors and their families are invited to a special event this Wednesday, June 11th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Metz Hamilton Park, also known as Lefferts Park, located on East New York Avenue between Troy and Albany Avenues. The Senior Wellness Fair promises a rich lineup of resources, education, and activities designed to support the aging community.

Hosted by the Interborough Developmental Consultation Center and its Connect program, this outdoor fair is dedicated to helping older adults and caregivers navigate the complexities of aging, including Home Care, Rehabilitation services, Medicaid qualifications, trusts, and more.

“Families often face difficult decisions when a loved one requires Home Care, especially during hospital stays,” explained representatives from Interborough Developmental Consultation Center. “This event aims to empower seniors and their caregivers with knowledge and community support, so they have the right tools at the right time — a 311 instead of a 911.”

Visitors can connect directly with a variety of local organizations offering essential services. Heights and Hills, a Brooklyn-based agency, will be on-site to provide information on social services for homebound adults aged 60 and older. Their caregiver support programs include online groups and social worker guidance, especially valuable when coordinating with hospital staff for safe patient discharge and care transitions.

Other participating agencies include Access-a-Ride, the Human Resources Administration (HRA), Brooklyn Center for Independence of the Disabled (BCID), the NYC Department of Aging, and the FDNY, which will offer CPR training sessions. The Center for Community Health at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital will also provide details about free cancer screenings and diagnostic services for uninsured or underinsured New Yorkers aged 40 and up.

Additionally, CaringKind, the city’s leading nonprofit focused on Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving, will share valuable tools and support resources for families affected by these conditions.

The event will blend education with fun and wellness activities such as Chair Yoga, Art Therapy for seniors, and a bouncy house and bike etching station for grandchildren. Attendees can enjoy kosher snacks, water, and giveaways throughout the afternoon.

This community initiative is brought to life through collaboration among Interborough Developmental Consultation Center, Downstate Hospital, the Commission of Human Resources, and Community Board 9.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain knowledge, connect with local resources, and enjoy a day dedicated to senior wellness right here in Crown Heights.
