Renovations Coming? Jewish Children’s Museum Wins Portion of $213.8 Million City Grant

Eighty non profit institutions of culture and art across the five boroughs will be receiving grants from the New York City Culture Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo. The Jewish Children’s Museum is on that list.

The $213.8 Million in new investments being split amongst the eighty are part of the FY25 budget adopted earlier this year, and includes $117.1 Million from Mayor Adams alongside funds from the City Council and Borough Presidents Offices.

“At this moment in time, it has never been more important for our children to learn about each other,” Devorah Halberstam, Director of External Affairs for the Jewish Children’s Museum said in a press release. “At the Jewish Children’s Museum, a landmark in Brooklyn, our mission is to teach youngsters about the history and culture of the Jewish people so they have a better understanding and respect for the different peoples and cultures that are their classmates, neighbors and friends. We’re so grateful to Speaker Adams and the City Council, and Antonio Reynoso, the Borough President of Brooklyn, who have invested these significant capital funds in the Jewish Children’s Museum and recognize its vision to create cultural appreciation and respect for each other. I also thank Mayor Adams for his steadfast support and continuous assistance. It is through the talented and professional team at the Department of Cultural Affairs – especially its fabulous and outstanding Commissioner, Laurie Cumbo, that we are able to fulfill our dreams and hope for a better future for our children.”

The as of yet unknown amount of money being disbursed to the Jewish Children’s Museum is slated to go towards “a renovation project”.

The Jewish Children’s Museum, located on the corner of Eastern Parkway and Kingston Ave, has floors of exhibits and resource rooms, and hosts simchas and community events regularly.
