Infrastructure Upgrades Continue In Crown Heights With Major Gas Main Replacement

It’s inconvenient, but it’s also very important.

A new, three month plan to replace gas mains in Crown Heights will get underway in the coming weeks, with National Grid digging up and replacing aging gas mains on Crown, Brooklyn, Kingston, New York, and Albany Aves.

Yes, the months of street closures, torn up streets and sidewalks, and limited parking are inconvenient, but the replacement of these gas mains are vital for the continued usability of the gas system by the community.

Crown Heights Askanim have been working of the past years to increase attention of the systemic infrastructure issues that Crown Heights faces, with constant power outages due to old transformers and decaying power lines. The gas system has also been less than stellar, while not as bad, has also been less than stellar.

In April of last year, Crown Heights Council Member Crystal Hudson and her Chief of Staff Casie Addison visited Kingston Avenue and toured some of the local stores ahead of the upcoming summer season. They were accompanied by Crown Heights Activist Rabbi Yaacov Behrman. This visit aimed to address the issues faced by the stores in the past, particularly regarding electricity and ConEd.
