End of An Era, Kingsbook Jewish Hospital No Longer Accepting Ambulance Patients

by CrownHeights.info

After more than 90 years of service to the residents Brooklyn, Kingsbrook Jewish Hospital has stopped taking ambulance patients, effectively closing the Hospital’s Emergency Department.

The change began on Thursday in the next step in closing down the facility. In June of 2021 the hospital stopped admitting patients, shrinking the hospital down as it worked to integrate itself into a larger hospital system.

Located on the southern end of Crown Heights, the hospital is located under one mile from two other major hospitals, namely Kings County Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

With narrowing need for so many hospitals, Kingsbrook Jewish joined the One Brooklyn alliance with Brookdale Hospital and Interfaith Medical Center, closing down its facility to a stand alone Emergency Department, according to reports.

While Kingsbrook retained its Jewish name, the hospital has seen very few Jewish patients in recent years. A shul, which used to be located on hospital grounds, moved during COVID to a private home.
