Crown Heights To Play Host To Migrants As Eric Adams Marks P.S. 189 As New Shelter

As New York City Mayor Eric Adams faces an untenable migrant crisis, he has come up with an alternative solution to his failed bid to bus the migrants upstate. He will now be housing them in public schools, and a Crown heights school is next on the list.

The NYC School Safety Coalition broke the news on Twitter, writing “The next groups will be housed at PS 172 in Sunset Park and PS 189 in Crown Heights,” alongside a scathing letter decrying the Mayor’s plan.

“We understand that Mayor Adams is dealing with a humanitarian crisis and is in an untenable and difficult situation,” the coalition wrote in the letter. “However, our schools are not shelters to house unvetted adults from all over the world.”

PS 189, also known as The Bilingual School, sits on East New York Ave directly across from the southern most section of Rochester Park.

While the school parents and coalition are up in arms over the move, the influx of migrants is undoubtably going to cause tensions in the local Crown Heights community already heavily plagued with petty crime and gang violence.
