CitiBike Is Coming To Crown Heights With Two Eastern Parkway Locations
by CrownHeights.info
CitiBike, New York City’s bike share program will soon be arriving in Crown Heights, with two Eastern Parkway bike racks set to be installed.
The bike sharing service provides residents and affordable way to rent a bike for short periods of time, and with hundreds of locations throughout the city, it was only a matter of time before they arrived in Crown Heights.
According to the map of bike locations, CitiBike plans to install two racks, one on Eastern Parkway and Kingston Ave across the street from 770, and another at the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Troy Ave. This will be a big boon for the community.
As CitiBike allows you to borrow the bike from one rack and return it at another, the installation of the racks will provide a new way for many people to commute across Brooklyn and into Manhattan, where previously the options were either the subway or a cab ride.
No date was provided on the CitiBike website as to when the rack is expected to be installed, but it does say that it should be expected “soon”.
Based on the sudden addition of many new racks, it would appear that the installations are coming as part of a larger plan to install CitiBike racks in the area North of Eastern Parkway, where more than two dozen racks have been marked as waiting to be installed.
Common sense
This is horrible for our community, Citibike stations all over NYC attract homeless & criminals that rip apart the citibikes, then do all sorts of crimes while on those stolen bikes.
I hope the Crown Heights Community Askanim/Activists can arrange for these to be installed like by either Franklin or Utica instead of the heart of CH which this will only negatively affect our community.

I have been waiting for CitiBike for years. I live in an apartment without a place to store a bike. This will be a great way to commute to work. As for your claim about homeless and criminals, they are there regardless of whether CitiBike is available. They do crime in Crown Heights now without CitiBike so it won’t make a difference. Why should the rest of the innocent people lose out.
dont worry
There are many citibike locations all over and its hard for homeless people to get them as you need a credit card. they are also maintained well and attracts people there which wil deter people from doing croime there. people doing crime on bikes are usually stolen ones anyways

This will be a great addition to the community. Allowing the long awaited additional traveling options in the Shchuna is greatly appreciated, especially for those that do not have space to store their own bike in their apartment.
