Yes. Americans receive too little vacation time. The longer you work, the more vacation you should accumulate. I think we need four weeks paid vacation like other countries because people come back to work more relaxed, refreshed and eager to work. Productivity would go up if we’d increase our vacation time.

Question: Workers in some European countries average as many as five or six weeks of vacation a year. In the U.S., it’s two weeks. Are Americans vacation-deprived?

Yes. Two weeks is too little. I’m originally from Australia where the norm is four weeks vacation. Americans are hard workers and I feel they are becoming overworked.
— Yaron Levy, director
No. Two weeks is more than enough, especially considering that we’re lucky to have Shabbos as a day of rest each week. European countries are dysfunctional; it’s unhealthy for a country to have so much vacation time. They may have more vacation time than the U.S. but we are the ones they turn to for aid and even though they offer universal health coverage, they come here when they need good healthcare. Sure, everybody would like to have more vacation time, but it’s unhealthy for the people and for the country. It’s good to work.
—Shelly Mark, business manager
No. Two weeks is enough; if you have any more than that you will lose your cheshech (desire) to work. As it is, people waste too much money and time on vacation. We were born to work and to fulfill mitzvot, not to spend all our free time vacationing. Two weeks is sufficient time to unwind.

i am not surprised you think 2 weeks is enough you do not open your store till 10 and have some one take you over at 3 you must really feel overworked from all that abuse you give your customers

abused customer’s comment is nasty.
think before you write......
everyone is intitled to their own opinions!!! what do you think he goes on vacation after three? he just had twins! I wish everyone would think before they wrote and if you do not have anything nice to say , don’t say it!!

Mr. Abused Customer,
I agree with you that there are some stores in the community that are abusive to their customers. Those individuals indeed don’t deserve our business. Perhaps when they see that people don’t patronize them for their being nasty and over pricy, they would learn the desired lesson. If matters get really bad and they are just too abusive, then perhaps other steps and measures such as writing on this blog, can be taken. However, where I beg to differ with you is regarding the alleged abuse you refer to in your "abused customer" comment. This individual is a very fine person who takes his time to chat with customers, despite a busy day at work. He is just in general a well rounded genuinely authentic mentsh. Let’s focus on love for the month of Elul, and by sharing love we’ll be reciprocated to with love :-)
i dont get it.........
i dont get it,what r u saying???????? americans have 10 weeks vacation in the summer whilst europeans only have 5 weeks………….they have some vacation time in the winter too but all in all the americans have more vacation time a year!!!!!!!!!!!!
what vacation????
The real question is whether or not you get and count Yom Tov as vacation or not. If you work for a non frum business then even if you get 4 weeks of paid vacation; you end up using over 3 weeks for Yom Tov and erev Yom Tov, Purim, early Shabbosim, etc.
If you work for a Shomer Shabbos business and you get two weeks of paid vacation, then you end up with the equal to over 5 weeks of paid vacation, which is more then the rest of us who work for the government or goyim get!!!
And lots of us who work for Yeshivas, etc. get less than one week of vacation, because they tell us how we get off for Yom Tov etc. Those of us who have the z’chus to work in a Headstart technically are working on all of those legal holidays FOR NO PAY at all because while we are open, so that parents can sleep late, or because they don’t have the day off; the government doesn’t count those days as school days so we have to work extra days to make the mandated 180 school days.

It’s your nasty attitude that makes people abuse you. Save your soul, ask forgiveness.

R u counting President’s wk n all the "Bank Holidays" acuumalated thru-out the yr?"

Does the 4 weeks of paid vacation include Jewish holidays? I get 4 weeks of vacation and after the Tishrei holidays and Pesach, I have nothing left!

I used to be a customer of Kosher Town. I think it’s by far the best place to shop in CH. I have now moved to another city on shlichus. I miss the friendly service from a heimishe guy. Shimmy keep it up.
Disclaimer: I am in no way related to Shimmy or anyone who has any monetary interest in that store.
I do continue ordering from Kosher Town after I moved out of CH.

i don’t understand why such comments are allowed to remain on your sight! everyone reads them and they are rude and thoughtless. please try and keep such rude comments off your website especially when the article doesn’t have anything to do with it.
honestly
I must agree that customers in his store are given severe attitude.perhaps this can be a wake up call for all business owners to be nice! After all our hard earned money is going to there pockets.
pissed
i think its not right by elul time to write about peoples problems no matter( even if the owner is a mean guy which he most def is even before his twins he was nasty to me and screamed get out of my store unles you spend 10 $ ) but since were in elul i will not bring it up keep up the good work
;)
I would also like to share about my positive experiences shopping by "Shimmy’s." I find he is always eager to please the customer, and tries hard make the shopping quick and easy. I have never had any problem with customer service. I do think however, that someone else’s attitude is a reflection of your own. So my advice–"smile, and the world will smile with you…not abuse you." Have a good day, and "kasivah vechasimah tovah" to the whole shchunah, and k’lal yisroel.
Jealousy is not healthy
We love you Shimmy. Jealousy is not healthy

Shimmy’s brother-in-law is nice. If I have to stop in Koshertown I’ll do it when he’s behind the counter, not Shimmy.

I’ve never been mistreated in koshertown.

WHAT? Not only does he not do that, but a couple of times during the recent heat wave I had no cash and unlike a lot of others he took my card on 5-7 dollars worth. I’m now gone from the shchuna too, but never once did I get anything but the best service in that store.
Were you pissed (as in shikker) when you shopped there?

Hey Shimmy!
They say even bad publicity is good – so let’s say Gam Zu L’Tovah! – Afterall, in CH we have: 2 Batei- Din (no Av Beis Din); the pro’s the anti’s;-the list is endless… If 2 people would agree on anything Mashiach would have been here eons ago! Shana Tovah Umetukah!

With great sadness I write this comment.
My children informed me with troubled faces about the comments left on this web site about an innocent Jew, he was asked a question and gave an answer in all innocence. Is he running for mayor, governer,or president that his answer is going to become law and has to be diseceted as it was. What was the reason for the question why are you people wasting a hard workers time to ask questions with no meaning? Under the dininim of Loshen Hara we are warned not to say anything good about a person in case someone else will contradict and say bad and bring to speaking loshen hara . I hope you will seriously consider what you put up on this web site. I suggest you read some Perkie Avos and realise that the words written on this site cannot be retracted its like cutting a feather pillow open in the wind and then trying to collect the feathers. I can only tell you that I know Shimmy and his family for about fifteen years, he is a yorei shomayim and is troubled when he sees people suffering in anyway. The tzar caused by these comments should be a kapara for you shimmy and your family and you should have a kesiva vechasima tova leshona tova umesuka. simcha hecht
