Will There Be A Labor Day Parade This Year? Yes and No

by CrownHeights.info

Labor Day is coming, and the burning question for Crown Heightsers is, will there be a parade this year?

The annual Labor Day Parade that covers the entire Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza through Crown Heights usually draws nearly a million people of West Indies descent, bringing blasting music and a parking nightmare.

With last year’s parade moved entirely virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the question is, will there be a major parade this year?

The answer is no, there will not be a massive parade on Eastern Parkway, but yes, there will still be special Labor Day festivities taking place in the area.

According to the West Indian American Day Carnival Association, the parade itself will take place virtually again this year, with the next in-person parade planned for September of 2022.

Yet other in-person events will be taking place at the Brooklyn Museum from Thursday, September 2nd through Monday, September 6th. Those include music festivals and a costume event.

So while we will likely not see the massive influx of people as we would in a normal year, you can still expect to see an increase in traffic around Labor Day Weekend.

Update: It is also important to note that Labor Day will be Erev Rosh Hashana this year.
