As The Democratic Primary Numbers Finalize, Socialist Candidate Michael Hollingsworth Concedes Defeat

It’s been a long and bumpy ride, but the results of the New York Democratic Primary are slowly becoming clearer.

As the New York City Board of Elections released the updated data for the Democratic Primary, Socialist candidate for the New York City Council 35th District Michael Hollingsworth conceded defeat, all but guaranteeing that Crown Heights’s preferred candidate, Crystal Hudson, will win.

“While the results of the election have not yet been certified, I know with certainty that I won’t have the privilege and honor of representing my neighbors in City Hall next year,” wrote Hollingsworth.

The decision appears as Crystal Hudson held a commanding lead of more than 4% over Hollingsworth with 98% of all ballots having been reported. In numbers, Hudson holds a lead of almost 1300 votes, which for a city council election is close, yet commanding.

Hudson has not yet claimed victory, and the results have yet to be certified.

A win for Hudson can very well be attributed to the incredible turnout by the Crown Heights Jewish community, which pumped out an estimated 3000 votes, breaking an election dry spell that lasted over twenty years.

The push came following a year of Unity and created an unprecedented United Crown Heights front that galvanized the community to show up at the polls.

Hollingsworth announced his concession with a strong message, he will be back really, really soon.
