Voter Registration Drive Underway in Crown Heights

by CrownHeights.info

A voter registration drive is underway in Crown Heights to rally the voting power of our often politically discounted Jewish community.

The drive, backed by a wide non partisan group of Crown Heights businessman and leaders, aims to get every Crown Heights resident registered to vote, regardless of party of affiliation.

“The people chosen in this election will run New York City for the next four years, and will have a major impact on the lives of every family and individual in Crown Heights, but most importantly on our schools,” the group wrote in a letter signed by the schools of Crown Heights. “There are forces who are working tirelessly to undermine and hurt our Yeshivas. Therefore, we are calling on you dear parent to please help us fight to protect our Yeshivas.”

Due to the complicated breakup of the Crown Heights voting districts and apathy within the community, politicians have been able to largely ignore the needs of Jewish Crown Heights, including the special needs of Jewish education.

“So, please help us to help you, and vote to protect our community, our way of life and most importantly our children’s future. Their future is in your hands and the hands of those elected.”

The first stages of the voter registration drive is a series of signs promoting voter registration, soon to be followed by a letter sent to each parent in Crown Heights schools.

“We must make sure that every person over 18 in our homes are registered at his or her Crown Heights address to vote.”

NOTE: The June 22nd election is a DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY, which chooses which democratic candidate will be selected to run in the general election. To vote in the Democratic Primary you must be registered as a democrat, although this DOES NOT obligate you to vote for a democrat in the general election.
