Two Officers Injured, and Another Person Shot In Shooting Near Crown Heights

An officer was shot in the leg, and another protected by his bullet proof vest after officers responded to a 911 call for a person shot.

The officers from the 71st precinct responded to the 911 call at approximately 9:30pm for the report of a deranged man having shot his roommate at 42 Hawthorne street between Flatbush Ave and Bedford Ave.

According to the police, the deranged man had shot his roommate in the leg before going to the stairwell to face off against the responding officers.

The officers were ambushed on the stairwell, with one of them shot in the bullet proof vest and the other grazed by a bullet to his leg.

The officers returned fire, but the shooter was able to retreat into his apartment unhurt and barricade the door.

A massive emergency response ensued, with ESU officers and specialized crews arriving to diffuse the situation.

After a short standoff, the shooter surrendered without further violence.

EMS treated the two officers as well as the roommate who was shot. The officers have since been discharged from Kings County Hospital.
