Clove Road, an alleyway like street that runs adjacent to a row of Jewish homes is slated to get an “upgrade”, and be transformed into a pedestrian Plaza, according to a report in the Brooklyn Paper.

Clove Road, a dilapidated cobble stone strip that connects Montgomery Street with Malbone Street in crown Heights, is at present barely drivable, with potholes and cars parked along it.

With Jewish homes running along one side of it, the other side boasts a parking lot of the Associated Supermarket and some local shops.

The plan to change Clove Rd comes suspiciously timed as another development begins construction next to the Associated Supermarket and on the corner of Clove Rd.

The owner of the adjacent project, Karl Cohen, told Community Board 9’s Transportation Committee on Dec. 2nd that “This is a dream that I have had for many many years, since 1984 when I first purchased that property. My vision is really to make it into a state of the art park, and a state of the art building as well.”

Cohen also happens to be the present President of the NYPD’s 71st Precincts Community Council.

The Department of Transportation has yet to finalize details on what the plaza would look like, or what the cost of the project would be. Other details, such as if Malbone Street would become a one way street have also not been finalized.
