Labor Day Parade To Go Virtual, Will Not Be Taking Place In Crown Heights

by CrownHeights.info

The annual West Indies Day Parade that takes place in Crown Heights is not happening this year due to the COVID Pandemic, or at least not in person.

The city placed signage along Eastern Parkway advertising it’s planned virtual parade, which will hosted outside of Crown Heights.

The carnival is being arranged by “WIADCA,” the West Indies American Day Carnival Association.

The signs initially caused confusion as the word virtual does not appear on the signs, and the city had promised that the parade would not be taking place.

The 71st Precinct had also advised the residents of Crown Heights that despite there being no parades taking place in the community, the NYPD would be beefing up its number of officers in the area by nearly 2000.

Crown Heights Shomrim also told Crownheights.info that they are monitoring the situation, and that as always, the community should be aware of their surroundings and basic precautions should be taken. Such precautions include limiting travel around the neighborhood, especially for woman and children, and ensuring that all vehicles and valuables are properly secured.
