NYPD Cameras Go Up In Crown Heights

As part of a new initiative to combat bias attacks and anti-semitism in New York City, the NYPD has installed cameras in Crown Heights to monitor well trafficked corners of the community.

The first camera put up in the community was put up on Friday, and is located on Kingston Ave on the corner of Union Street.

The initiative to install 100 new security cameras in Williamsburg, Crown Heights and Borough Park was announced by Mayor Bill DeBlasio in January.

The effectiveness of these cameras has been called into question, with critics pointing out that local stores have no lack of surveillance cameras.

The cameras are also not monitored 24/7, and officers are required to retrieve the footage from another location.
