Crown Heights Shomrim Honored At Law Enforcement Award Ceremony

Batia Brandel, Director of CHJCC Crime Victims Program, honored a Crown Heights Shomrim Volunteer and law enforcement officers at their annual awards ceremony showing appreciation to members of law enforcement and volunteers.

Honored at the event were members of law enforcement, including two NCO officers from the 71st precincts sector B, Officer Daniel Oh, and Officer Vu Nguyen. Officer Michael Baratta of the 71st Precincts community affairs unit was also honored, along with Officer Raymond DiMaria who was recognized for his work with the community.

Rabbi Mendy Hershkop, a coordinator of Crown Heights Shomrim and volunteer since 2010, was chosen as an honoree for his tireless work for the Crown Heights community. Rabbi Hershkop is also the rabbi of “The Shul,” a local shul for young members of the Crown Heights community.

Officers in the 77th precinct including Sergeant Alex Vahldieck, Detective John Anastasakos, and Detective Michael A. Bennett, were also honored.

Attending the event were NYPD brass including Chief Conroy and Chief Scholl of Patrol Boro Brooklyn South, and the commanding officers Inspector Romero of 71st precinct, Inspector Buttacavoli of 77th precinct, as well as officers from both the 71st and 77th precincts.
