Election Day Trouble at Crown Heights Polling Station
Ballots were misplaced at a Crown Heights polling place the morning of Election Day, prompting numerous people to leave and forcing others to stand in chilly weather for more than two hours as they waited to cast their ballots, according to multiple Twitter users on Tuesday.
Polls opened at 6:00am, and within minutes dozens of Crown Heights voters took to social media to share stories of the issues they faced.
People formed lines at P.S. 1 at 532 Albany Ave. – across the street from Lefferts Park – by 5:30am. Within the hour, that line had not moved, and police confirmed “that all the books and ballots have been misplaced.”
Eventually the line became significantly shorter, as people gave up and left – either because it was too cold or because they had to get to work.
