CAY to Host Shabbos Dinner in Permanent Home
This Chanukah the young Congregation of Chevra Ahavas Yisroel marked two years since it was established, and this Shabbos will mark the first time they will host a Shabbos meal in the home that they own.
After roaming around for a while the congregation has called the Mimulo Flower Shop its first home, followed by the Rubashkins basement on President Street and most recently the Maple Street Shul. This Shabbos will be different – they will no longer be homeless.
After purchasing their new building located at 306 Albany Avenue they congregation struggled to find the funds needed in order to fully renovate the premises.
This past Shabbos, services were held there for the first time with over 250 people in attendance. Following the services congregants came forward with donations – all in small denominations – raising a total of $17,000! These donations allowed them to reach the point where they can now hold services and meals there.
CrownHeights.info was granted a sneak peak of the premises – which is still under construction – and we found Rabbi Chezzi Denebeim atop a platform, nailing in the tiles for the new ceiling. “we gotta save money wherever we can and we are going to need even more to complete this project” said Chezzi.
