A news story involving Crown Heights Shomrim and an ‘attempted murder’ appeared on a Hebrew language Chabad news website, concerning a non-Jewish cleaning lady ‘who attempted to harm’ her Jewish employer with a knife. Shomrim fielded multiple calls from panicking residents as the story began making rounds on social media sites.

Shomrim told CrownHeights.info that what actually occurred was that one of their volunteers had witnessed an African-American woman get out onto her fire escape and cry for help while wielding a knife, in an apparent attempt to ward off someone from inside the apartment.

The incident occurred on the second floor of 1384 Carroll Street, an apartment building which houses both Jewish and non-Jewish residents. The drama unfolded on the fire escape which is right above Dr. Rosen’s office and faces Kingston Avenue, which drew the attention of many passers-by.

Shomrim alerted the police to the cries for help, who went in to investigate. The incident appears to have been domestic related and no arrests were made.
