R. Braun Throws Tantrum After Not Being Shown ‘Respect’

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — It was truly a bizarre scene in 770 this past Shabbos, when tens of people witnessed R. Yosef Braun literally throwing a tantrum – shouting at the Gabai Reb Yosef Losh that he will ‘punish’ him.

The showdown took place on Shabbos afternoon just after Davening concluded and people were sitting down for their farbrengens, when R. Braun ran over to the table where R. Losh was sitting and started yelling at him “Cutzpah! You didn’t listen to instructions! We are going to punish you!”

People were shocked and stunned at the outburst and were mystified as to what was really behind it.

After a little digging CrownHeights.info learned that the tantrum was the result of it not being announced that R. Braun would be speaking at the Farbrengen – an announcement which never takes place anyway.

Apparently Yosef Spielman had approached Yosef Losh, the Gabai who was making the announcements after davening, and told him that he should announce that R. Braun and Rabbi Yakov Schwei would be making speeches at the farberengen. R. Losh responded that he never makes such announcements, but if he wants he could do it himself and no one would stop him.

R. Braun’s outburst apparently followed what he saw as disrespected toward him, and so he sought R. Losh out and threatened him.

    Rabbonim need to be adhered to whether you like it or not! If losh was told to do something, he should have listened! Oh, and btw, i was there, and no, it was not a “tantrum”! Don’t over exaggerate. Also they were supposed to speak after mincha on shabbos, not by the farbrengen.

    Note: respect is earned and this action certainly leads to the other direction. The proper behavior would have been to ignore this lack of an annoucement and when he obtained everyhone’s attention–he could speak.

    I was in Sydney was Yossi Braun was still a bochur on shlichas and I was there again when he was a yungerman teaching in the mesivta. Yossi Braun is a PUTZ and never showed his elders or peers any respect back in Sydney. He thinks that he has the title of being a Dayin makes him something special, automatically deserving respect?! You reap what you sow. Maybe Yossi Braun should learn to show respect to others and get off his high-horse and then maybe people will take him seriously and show him some respect in return.

    I am very surprised that Rabbi Braun would behave in a way that is so very unbefitting a Rov, and especially a Morah D’asra of a community Beis Din. I am beginning to have severe doubts about this man. I have tried to dismiss negative stories about him, but unfortunately, the list of immature,and hostile behaviours keeps growing and growing.

    Rabbi Yossi Losh is a talmud chochim and one of the more knowledgeable individuals regarding the Rambam’s Kiddush HaChodesh. His shiurim are fascinating. Why anyone would want to embarrass him in public is beyond me.

    BTW why is it so difficult for Braun to prove that he is in fact a Rabbi, He can go to DC and ask them how to forge documents.

    I personally witnessed a very similar incident in 770 on a Shabbos morning before Davening, between R. braun and R. Y. losh. Very bad attitude and very threatening. so this one is a repeat!!
    The authority in 770 is the Rebbe! Period! No other authority is there or will there be announced as such, not Braun and not anyone else.
    The moro d’assro is the Rebbe.
    The Rabbonei hashechuno are here to lead the community in all matters of Halocho. But in NO WAY do they or eill they assume a “leading role’ in 770!

    You are the only site with the guts to post this kind of thing so those of us who refuse to step into 770 anymore can be reminded WHY we don’t step foot in what was once the crown jewel of shuls – the terrorism that goes on there on a daily basis. Other websites are either in Braun’s and Shwei’s back pocket or they bury their heads in the sand and pretend everything smells like roses. I think it smells like corruption, bullying, meseira, intimidation and the Mafia.

    I was there. Braun did lose control of himself. He wanted lush to announce that he was speaking…and lush never makes announcements…he was told to go to menachem…after not getting his way, brain then went to tell Schweitzer who also had words for lush…

    Good for lush for standing up to these gangsters. Brauns roots are misnagdish and all he cares about is who’s paying for his trips, schools, house and salary….and like a true misnagid, he wants everyone to know how much Torah he knows…a val gievanick I believe its called.

    A rob does not need to make speeches and be captivating for the crouch…he needs to be modest and have a strong backbone to stand up for what’s right…even if hes standing alone….

    Ps. I myself have seen Braun ravening after 12pm in 770….walking around saying words without a siddur….what a great role model…..NOT!

    Sorry to say this, but I think that if an expert would look at Rabbi Braun’s eyes he would see a lot more than just his two eyes. He will see, if I am not mistaken, a person who is emotionally not very stable and is challenged on a day to day basis and living in fear.

    It could be that all of the above is simply due to the things that are going on around him, but it could be more than that. don’t know. do you?

    Thank G-d I left crown heights years ago so my kids don’t need to see this. Hopefully I will never have to send them back when they get older so they don’t get disolussioned with what the Rebbe left behind.     As an experienced Gabbay you should know that when a child has a tantrum, all you need to do is give him a lollipop and he quiets down. You should keep a few emergency lollipops for such occasions.(Sometimes a spare diaper would also help). Keep up the great work and
    ignore babies throwing tantrums.

    To our dear friends and family,
    This is why we moved. We didnt think we could raise frum yet balanced kids in Crown Heights. We didn’t want to raise our kids in this environment of politics and disrespect. We love you all and visit often, but we keep our kids a safe distance and out of earshot of all this.
    Unfortunately not everyone who wants to move can do it. But as I hear and see the disillusioning effects of machlokes on kids growing up in CH, I am grateful to not be raising our kids there.

    I really have no right to judge anyone and I respect your concern for your children’s chinuch. On the other hand to abandon what seems (C”V) to be a sinking ship is not the answer either. If indeed CH is precious to us we have to save the ship. In this case it means destroying the seeds of machlokis caused by a 100% corrupt Vaad HaKohol and their forced choices of Rabbonim. This includes Rabbis Schvei and Rabbi (Mr?) Braun– both of whom were foisted upon the community, and both of whom have inspired machlokis and hatred since assuming their respective leadership roles.

    I do not know how many agree with this analysis, but perhaps whoever does could suggest realistic, halachically sound ways of dealing with our problems to save our children and community.

    I know you won’t publish this but..I think the heading of this article – and most likely the article itself was inappropriate. The delivery of such disrespect and wholesale slander of any human being is just plain wrong. It goes against everything the Torah stands for (and this is a Jewish site, is it not?). Even where there is reason to criticise, for the sake of the education of teenagers and the general tone of people’s minds, at least the style of it should give some recognition of human dignity. The way in which this was done only serves to cheapen this blog and turn it into a tabloid.
