Moment of Kindness Captured in Crown Heights

A shutterbug captured this photo of a gentleman cop helping an elderly woman across the street in Brooklyn.

“I thought it was really cool that he helped her,” photographer Dovid Zaklikowski, 33, said Wednesday. “I was just walking and snapped the picture.”

The father-of-four snapped the photo on Tuesday in front of the Jewish Children’s Museum on Eastern Pkwy. in Crown Heights and posted it on Facebook.

The NYPD said the cop is P.O. Mark Meyers from the 71st precinct and that he was unavailable for comment.

“I couldn’t let this moment slip by,” said Zaklikowski, an archivist at Lubavitch Archives. “But did not want to disturb the two, who looked like they were so involved in getting across the street, so I took the photo from a distance.”

You’re outdated. She doesn’t only throw back pennies. She throws back quarters too.

No matter how rude, she is still a Yid and needs help.

  • wowed

why are we so wowed by a NYC personnel doing what is called an act of mentchlichkeit??
isnt’ that what one would expect?
don’t let your children see the “wow” of this. I sure hope this is a given for our families.

she is the rudest beggar out there no one should give here anything i know someone who gave her a dollar and her response was why only a dollar I see you have more give me the five i see you have it.

#4.My sentiment exactly. It is the most basic function of a policeman to be involved in such obvious acts of assistance. Standing and not helping would be more newsworthy.

    • Couldn't agree more

And I also agree she is a fahrbissenehr. One of the nastiest people i have ever met.

    To # 2
    Yes it is.

    To # 3
    Exactly

    To# 5
    YES she is a yid…
No matter how rude you might feel she is, she is a bas Kohen and has a Yiddeshe neshama..

  • Don't Pick on Devorah

Don’t pick on Devorah (the beggar). If you give her paper money like I do, anywhere from single dollars to hundred dollar bills, she’s very nice and gives nice brochas to you. Try it sometime and you’ll see.

  • Beautiful Gesture

It may be true that such kindness from cops is not typical, but this cop is Jewish!

Therefore I think it is expected…as well as being a Kiddush HaShem.

  • s

she curses at you if you dont give her money, sometimes also yelling anti-Semitic slurs. and she is also a terrible influence on our children that see her. I am not sure that she is Jewish.

  • she belongs in a mental health clinic

I thought I was the only one this farbissineh frau yells at. It’s good to know I’m not the only one. I don’t give her any money. She clearly has mental illness.

Get her to a homeless shelter, mental health clinic and on public assistance ASAP. There is NO reason anyone should have to beg (for themselves) for any money. With all the resources out there (both public and private). Otherwise, maybe we should stop giving maiser to all the charity organizations and start giving it to panhandlers? if you think you 1$ to a panhandler is helping anyone i’m sorry you’re mistaken. I wish it did.

  • What the world has come to

When I grew up in the UK we were taught what a policeman does. It was always mentioned that they would help old women cross the street. But I suppose in New York, Brooklyn, the Capital of Rude and Out’a My Way! this is news.

wow, nobody cared to help her across the street so in the end a police had to come help her.

look at what society has come to.
