ALIYA’s Night Owls Gearing Up for Purim
The ALIYA Institute (Alternative Learning Institute for Young Adults) of Crown Heights, is very diligently continuing to provide our youth and community at large with great innovative projects and functions, including the emergence of a new band, and a general “boost” to their existing wonderful programs.
Beginning with ALIYA re-launching and reopening its popular studio, a few ALIYA members and local Bochurim teamed up to form a band. Seizing the great opportunity and the oncoming spirit of Chanukah, their first song was a band members original “Chanukah composition,” and was a huge hit when they performed it at the annual ALIYA Chanukah Concert.
With a unique blend of a conventional acoustic style, spruced up with modern day “pop” rhythms, touches of “rapping,” and of course some “Good ‘ol Chassidic Spirit,” their new sound is truly a novelty.
The collaboration of the members’ different places in the “spectrum” of the community, combined with their improvisation on many styles of music, brings forth a very lively and modern day humorous masterpiece, and is a great listen to just about anyone!
They named themselves “The Night Owls” capturing the “vibe” of always having to work at night because of the very tight schedule of bochurim, and the niche of our generation; to shine through the darkness in taking the final step out of exile and welcoming the redemption!
Over the past few months, the band brought in more musicians, instruments, and outside talent in developing a very lively and catchy hit single Purim Song! Many new faces were introduced to the studio as well as ALIYA’s other great programming. After many weeks of “jamming” and fine-tuning, the song was recorded and mastered, and promises to be a hit musically, and in spreading the Purim spirit to the youth of our community, and many others abroad! Stay tuned!
Call it merging, collaboration, blending–it all equals– Unity, the driving force behind ALIYA and all of its functions. Also in the recent winter months, ALIYA saw a huge rise in their very popular Monday Night “Torah & Sushi Learning Program!” Every Monday night “The Guys” pair up with local Yeshiva Bochurim and community members for an hour of learning followed by some awesome sushi! This amazing duo of “Torah & Sushi” brings lots of cheer and spirit to those “ordinary” Monday nights and is enjoyed tremendously by the guys and bochurim alike!
From the Studio to the Shul; the development of a new band and new functions, ALIYA once again, as always, is doing wonders by uniting a wide array of individuals from the community into a one complete being and a beautiful masterpiece!
