Photos: Chanoch Lena’ar Gets a New Name

Yeshiva Chanoch Lena’ar got a new name, which is now prominently displayed on a sign in front of its building on Eastern Parkway and Albany Ave. The Yeshiva was renamed after Rabbi Mordechai Meir Bryski, father of the Yeshiva’s dean Rabbi Yaakov Bryski, and the new sign was installed just in time for his Shloshim.

#6, So? The Rebbe also approved the name Oholei Torah. That didn’t stop them from changing it to Oholei Menachem, and nor should it have. So what’s the difference here?

  • Meir #6

#7 – Also it will take time and effort to make people realize that Yeshivas Mordechai Meir and Chanoch Lena’ar are the same place.

Which will make fund raising and P.R. more Difficult

  • Surprised

I hope there is new administration. XCh”v to send a student to that Yeshiva now

  • for reasons of pragmatism

Even if/when the record is set straight & no ligitimate concern remains

The damage was done, & they will surely be forced to have the Dean retire from active leadership

If he’s realistic he’ll appoint a reputable educator in his stead

Someone who has no enemies whatsoever
(All it takes is 1 or 2 disgruntled persons to fabricate or grossly exadurate a minor incident into a 30 year scandal)

I know because bedidi hava uvda…

  • i dont believe LH until i have proof pos

He’s already tried & sentanced by the sensationalist media

If he cares for the cause he ought to delegate his job & focus on fundraising from 99% of his students who have no resentment issues with years in that system

If it was soo bad then I think over 35 40 years you would have army’s of protesters

    Something is fishy
    The pattern just doesn’t fit
To have so few complaints over 1000s of students

After 30 years every principle in the world will have a guarenteed percentage of former students or staff with some unresolved Grudge

(Look at the famous case in BP) took 25 for the accuser’s to be exposed and arrested

  • with full sincerety

    To Whom This may Concern.
There is a fire burning! Beautiful Neshomos were burnt by Bryski! and he wants to reopen? and we are going to allow it???

  • 13 on board is not the problem

His reputation is only tainted as a on site teacher or on duty administrator I can bet money on it that guilty or not he will recognize his limitations and inability to completely resorect. His PR image

To do the right thing is to gracefully move out of the way he’s old enough to legally retire and let the work continue w/o the burdon of his direct involvemen which is guarenteed to perpetuate the damage already caused to soo many potential students who could’ve been studying in a chabad school if not for the irreversible stigma

As the saying goes, its better to do what’s the cause needs even if your Scott clean

YASHER KOACH TO THE ENTIRE BRYSKI FAMILY.

May the new Yeshiva created in the name of your father Z”L foster strength and a real love of learning in its fortunate talmidim.

  • Zalman

If im not mistaken Rabbi Yaakov Bryski is not going to be the dean rather an entire new board and dean… i guess to be announced soon!
and the way Crown Heights looks today, we defiantly need a new Misivtah! a little competition in these field cant hurt!!
    NOTE TO crownheights.info:
Please do research posting and find out details as the one i wrought above!!

  • Hatzlocha!

I heard this new Yeshiva will fill a void in Crown Heights, Instead of shipping our boys to Wilkes, or others like that we will have it right here in our Shchunah.

I think there will be a new dean, Though the old one will stay on in administration.

    Much Success!!

  • SAD TO SEE

How very sad, to those who felt it necessary to refer to the terrible “blood libel” started by pure “klipa” –
Your day will come – it may take a day or maybe 20 years but it will come your way and if you have an ounce of seichel you will then recognize that you are being offered a chance to say “chatasi”.
It amazes me – why do people so readily believe garbage without even asking where it is coming from. A source without a signature is a pashkvil and is obviously not to be considered anything other than what it is PURE TRASH!!
Chaval that chelm has infiltrated our schuna.

  • Yossi G

I herd Rabbi Bryski will be back, I hope he will he is a very special person I’ve seen the good work he has done. May Hashem continue to bless him with strength and success!

  • Cant wait

My son is now in OT and cant stand it there, he says the elarning is to hard, the teachers dont care and he is not interested in going on to Mesivte next year, now that i hear that in CH (next to home) this school is opening, im actually excited for my son is excited that there might still be hope for him to get to enjoy the learning of the holy Torah!!
CANT WAIT to see who is going to be principle and the new adminestration!

  • Looking forward!

Lets wait and see, if this new program will be different than what ch offers now!

    its sorely needed!

  • Answer to #7

Actually, Ohlei Torah did want to put the rebbe’s name on their yeshiva. And the rebbe said (toichen): now is not the time.. (A similar then-puzzling story with the Kolel, as Rabbi Binyomin KLein related shortly after 3 tamuz).

So OT keeps both names indeed!

  • former student

students of the yeshiva know they avereged 30 to 40 students a year not thousands

  • Yerida letzorech aliya

i can only imagine that the rebbe would want all the menios viikuvim are meant to be learnt from and give rise to a new and improved version,

as long as there is even one talmid that will be on the fence to enter, i think the old staff must step aside and be replaced with solid new fresh faces

sometimes the best way to create something much better is to completely reinvent the whole structure and staff from scratch

i hope the old board has the wisdom to fully empower a new board of graduates from Mossad Menachem Education Foundation run by Rabbi Zalman Shneur (perhaps he should be part of the new board)

  • M.E.F. Menachem Education Foundation

Rabbi Shneur is very capable educator, it would be nice if he was recruited to design the new Yeshiva

  • Alum 1990, Michoel Blum

i have only nice things to say about my time in chanoch!

lets be careful before you criticize someone you never met,

i and my chaverim have gained much thanks to all the staff of chanoch…

watch out when accepting LH, from the internet lest Hashem treat you in kind gf

  • Rabbi yossi simpson fan!

Rabbi Yossi Simpson is an ideal candidate to be on the advisory committee

  • To #32

You cant build a mosad on destroying others. Those who are responsible for the scandle need to be removed. why should those with experience suffer.
That is what was done to OT mesifta & look what is going on there.

  • Moishe

I hope the new school teaches its students how to spell English correctly. The comments above and throughout this and other websites show an appalling lack of understanding and awareness of expression, and horrific spelling and sentence structure.

  • Chaim H a student for a few years

I remember the teachers and still contact them when ineed help

  • i-d love to see this program continue

i know several former students of canoch lenaar
and each one had the same thing to say to me, that they found Rabbi B & the rest of the staff to be carring but sometimes a bit too tough,

i feel this mossid needs to continue catering to newly frum bochurim who have no place else to go

as for a new impeccable staff, once the internet maligns someone there is unfortunately a permenant stigma even if no concrete evidence ever shows up

the damage is done, thats why the mossad has no choice and should be realistic not because the blood liable is true one drop but because the damage and stigma is sadly stuck

lets hope the mossad gets up n running with much success soon amen!

  • Disgruntled Alumnus

You all do not know what it is all about. Students that are miserable just left. They really do not care to write or complain.
One can’t whitewash the fact that gradually he destoyed the place with his pr. he never took advice from anybody. He destoyed all by himself.

  • OLD LANZMAN

would his father really like that, erase the name the rebbe mhm gave, i knew reb motel ah, he will be upset

  • Grateful student from the 90-s

I am former student of Rabbi Bryski and Chanoch Lenaar. My friends and I are happy to see Rabbi Bryski get back on his two feet (no surprise there). I have spoken to around 10 of us alumni (from different years and decades) and it is obvious to us that this slander is false.
Yasher Koach for Rabbi Bryski to see the need for a special yeshiva for Crown Heights teenagers. I wish you continued success with your students.

  • #48 and the rest of the well wishers

you all are doing wishful thinking. the yeshiva was down to as one student put it, more salads on the tables of most shabbat hosts than students in the school. again where will all the boys from ps go, or baalei tshuva etc., i think that was the purpose of opening the yeshiva.there are no yeshivas for these boys, where there are many for frum ones.

  • JOE NEKRUTMAN

My name is JOE NEKRUTMAN AND I FIRMLY STAND BEHIND RAV BRYSKI DURING THESE FALSE ALLEGATIONS.SOME KIDS NEVER GROW UP AND LOOK FOR THE EASY WAY OUT.I WAS A STUDENT 35 YEARS AGO AND HAVE KEPT IN CONTACT WITH HIM OVER THE YEARS. HE HAS DONE NOTHING OTHER THEN TRY TO INSTILL SOME JEWISH VALUES IN KIDS WHO NEVER EVEN KNEW WHAT A YARMULKE WAS IN MY TIME. YES DID HE MAKE SOME MISTAKES IN HIS 35 YEARS.HE DID. BUT NOTHING REGARDING THESE ALLEGATIONS. THE PERSON WHO MADE THIS DISGUSTING ALLEGATIONS SHOULD GET HONEST WITH HIMSELF AND MAKE AN AMENDS AND IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THAT FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME. BUT BE HONEST BECAUSE RIGHT NOW YOUR FULL OF IT

  • Shimon Blumenfeld

Rabbi Bryski was always kind and generous. I went to Chanoch Lenaar from 1984 to 1987 and became frum thru the teaching of Rabbi Bryski. He was selfless and spent every waking hour trying to help the kids become closer to Hashem.

I believe some kids may have taken some of the school’s rules personally. Not being able to smoke, watch tv, radio, talk to girls etc…. But that should not give them the right to slander Rabbi Bryski. I was in school with one of the “alleged” victims and quite close with him and he NEVER said a word to me. Additionally, Rabbi Bryski spent many late hours learning with me past bed time and NEVER did any of these alleged LIES happen to me. I was the gabbai my senior year and president of Ocean Parkway’s school council. Thus was at the center of most happenings and am speaking from first hand knowledge.

Unfortunately we are living in a time that it’s easier to blame others for our downfalls. Please remember that Rabbi Bryski’s efforts have helped many become frum and affected many generations positively. My wife and three children live closer to Hashem because of my years in Crown Heights.

  • Former Student

I went there for one year and being in Crown-Heights was cool, going to 770 for shabbos every week. That being said, Bryski was NOT a nice person. He was often very cold and callous and just plain old grouchy. (the opposite of Sefer Punim Yafos) I never saw him smile or laugh or support any of us emotionally or otherwise. In fact, we where all just really really scared of him, good kids AND bad kids alike….This being said, I understand that no-one can ever know if an old student is just looking for revenge or if something actually happened unless it was reported and any bleeding or damage was photographed and documented by authorities immediately….bottom line; NOT the right person to be doing “Kiruv” and showing “at-risk” children how wonderful and beautiful Judaism can be….if anything we all went off whatever Derech we where on by seeing his hypocrisy. Claiming meedos while not having any is DANGEROUS….
