Crown Heights [CHI] — Students arrived at Yeshiva Chovevei Torah this morning to discover to their dismay that sometime last night, several pairs of Tefillin were stolen from a Mesivta classroom on the first floor. The Tefillin were removed from their bags – seemingly so that they should be able to fit into the thief’s pockets. The act may have taken place during a simcha which was going on at the time in the hall downstairs.

Anyone with information that can help nab the perpetrators should please call Shomrim immediately at
Crownheights.info would like to take this oppertunity to remind our readers that Tefilin aren’t safe merely because they are in a Yeshiva or Shul. There are unfortunately many dishonest people with access to these places who are aware of the value of Tefilin and may exploit that. Best to keep them in a locker or just take them home with you
A Mom
Many years ago my son invited his friend over for the weekend. The friend planned on being home by Sunday so he left his tefillin in his locker at the end of the school day on Friday. My son told him that he must never leave his tefillin behind. Tefillin stay with you wherever you are. The friend took his tefillin to our home with him.
That weekend there was a fire that destroyed the entire school campus. Every student that had left his tefillin behind, lost his tefillin in the fire.
I learned a valuable lesson from my son that week.

I doubt anyone really took them. They probably borrowed them for the campus convention that took place last shabbos. Ask the organzirs for info.

My son had his Tefillin stolen in 770 a few years ago, He thought it was safe to leave them there, with his name spelled out on both bags! His friends were taking up a collection for a new pair as they knew we could never afford to replace them; they also told him never to tell his parents!!! The next night, he and his friends decided to stay up and watch everything going on and when anyone opened a locker, they ran over and examined the contents! Thankfully, the Tefillin were found in a locker, and the person who had them made up some stupid story, “I don’t know how they got there!!!”
