70 Years of Successfull Mesibos Shabbos

Mesibos Shabbos dates back to 1941, when the horror in Europe knew no bounds. The Friediker Rebbe had recently come to America. To begin American Jewry’s transformation, Merkos Established “Mesibos Shabbos” as one of their first campaigns.

“Our goal is giving the opportunity to every child, in every community, to participate in Mesibos Shabbos”, says Yossi Blau, director of Mesibos Shabbos. “The tremendous impact Mesibos Shabbos has on a child is powerful. When the Rebbe heard the Friediker Rebbe’s idea of the Mesibos Shabbos program, he said, ‘With this Mesibos Shabbos program we will impact the whole world’.”

“In 2012 we reached out to the seven Crown Heights boys schools wanting to make a difference. While there were many Mesibos Shabbos arranged, there were still many children not yet involved. Now, with every child’s class having their own Mesiboh, hundreds more are participating.”

The 45 minute program is packed to the last minute, beginning with the 12 Pesukim, continuing with Chabad niggunim and a Dvar Torah and finally, a story that the children anxiously wait for. An exciting game and refreshments are also included.

Rabbi Yisroel Engel, a long time Melamed, has been running Mesibos Shabbos for over 65 years and got Yossi Blau Involved at age 15. Rabbi Engel recalls, “Every child that participated in my Mesibos Shabbos, is a Shomer Torah U’Mitzvos today”.

Mesibos Shabbos has many functions. One of the primary purposes is Achdus. The positive outcome of children brought up with Achdus is tremendous. Therefore there is a strong emphasis on Ahavas Yisrael and Achdus. Having all seven schools under one umbrella is just one way it is brought out to the children.

Reaching 70 years of Mesibos Shabbos is not just another milestone. It’s a time to reach new heights. A time to reach that one more child. A time to give to our future.

Concluding Mesibos Shabbos 2013, the organizers would like to thank The Print House and all its sponsors for their generous support. Special thanks to Schneur Zalman Reizes and all our incredible Madrichim who have put in time and energy to make this program happen.

why is there no mention of Rabbi Katzen who has been doing Messibas shabboss in 770 with Rabbi Schwartz since the very beginning!

  • Wow, what a nice program

While Crown Heights is a good start, we can use this in all lubavitch cities.

  • Wow

Yossi ur incredible! Every year ur keeping it going and making it bigger and better!

  • A Chassidishe family began Mesibos Shabbos

3 years ago in their building on Carroll. Guests from out of town were so impressed that they took the idea to their city. It does impact, and is yet another aspect of the Rebbe’s kibush.

    interesting …

  • Is Mesibos Shabbos only for boys?

Last I checked, mesibos is for yiddishe kinder – both boys and girls!

  • Great work

Yossie Blau, you are an incredible inspiration.
Your goal was to reach all the children, including those who were either to shy or for another reason did not make it to Rabbi Katzen and Rabbi Schwartz Messibos Shabbos in 770!
In this way you reached every individual child through their very own classes Messibos Shabbos.
Over 500 childrens lives per Shabbos received inspiration.
I recently hosted a messibos Shabbos gathering for my son’s class. I was wowed by the fiery energy that was generated for 45 minutes straight. It was more then a regular Messibos Shabbos. It was a RALLY.

Thank you for your awesome work. May you go from strength to strength and spread this holy fire to the entire world.

Messibas shabbos works excellent in our Mokom hashlichus a resort area, The mothers, sometimes both parents, are bringing the children, due to the close area and the fact that our Chabad house is located in the center, the majority of parents are walking them, (so there is basically no chilul Shabbos even for my farfrumt friends) expenses are minimal, some parents are even insisting to pay for the expenses, the main idea is to have a good program to keep them busy, they are so happy, they beg their parents to bring them again and again.the reward is great because the parents are slowly getting involved.etc..etc..

The photo of the Rebbe is probably sometime between 1960-70 the logo has changed since then a few times.

I think this logo is the same Mesibos Shabbos logo they have at the Great Parade.
