The Rev. Al Sharpton may skip a panel discussion in the Hamptons on the 1991 Crown Heights riots after Jewish leaders blasted the organizer for inviting him.

“I may or may not go. I refuse to play into their extremism,” Sharpton said last night. “If it is not an event that will heal, it is not an event that I will partake in.”

Controversial rabbi-to-the stars Marc Schneier planned the Sunday confab to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the violence in Brooklyn between blacks and Hasidic Jews. Schneier defended his decision to invite Sharpton, saying the event will focus on the state of relations between the two communities.

“It’s an opportunity to have a frank and open exchange, and to clear the air,” Schneier said. “It is not a discussion about Crown Heights [in 1991]. It’s about the state of black and Jewish relations 20 years later.”

Other Jewish leaders and the family of the rabbinical student slain in the three days of chaos in 1991 said Sharpton has no place on the panel. They accused him of heightening tensions by spewing anti-Semitic slurs after the riots.

“It’s insulting,” said Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn).

Norman Rosenbaum, brother of Yankel Rosenbaum, a 29-year-old Australian scholar who was stabbed to death during the riots, was incensed.

“Out of respect for my brother and the other victims of the Crown Heights riots, the invitation to Sharpton … should be withdrawn immediately,” he said in an email from Australia.

I dont knwo why anyone is surprised. Marc shnier is a morally bankrupt opprtunistic bimbo who would sell his own mother for a little fake fame. His cover will be blown soon as well.

  • why stop there!?

Why stop there!? Let’s just cut off all contact with the Goyim and build a great big wall around our respective communities! Why not? Walls have served us so well in the past, right? Leave the Goyim to rot in the dark and let’s just keep our light to ourselves. After all, taking the short-long way has never hurt us in the past, right? It’s not like we’re suppose to pursue peace, right? Let’s just wait for Moshiach to come and fix all of our problems for us.

Sharpton is an animal only different in that he doesn’t lift his leg when he needs to do his business. He lower than an animal. an animal has some self respect… not fat al..

  • My vote is Sharpton Go Home!

If he IY”H doesn’t go, it will be the first time I ever agreed with this rabble rouser!
Sharpton Stay at Home! We don’t need or want you.

  • Truth

Sharpton is worried that the truth of his encoraging the riots will come out and hurt his political stance.

Did AL Sharfstein ever acknowldge that he might have done something harmful? Does anyone besides me think Schnier is a rosho?

  • Educated Left Liberal

To 2, why cut off contact with the goyim? Lets suck up to them so that we wont need to build walls around us. Maybe if we show them we are just like them and we forgive acts of hate and violence, maybe we won’t even need moshiach?

“Why Stop There,” I don’t know what you’re talking about, and frankly, I doubt you do either. No one is talking about setting up walls to separate us from the non-Jews. We are talking about “walling off” _one_ person who has caused tremendous harm in the past and shown no remorse whatsoever for it. You do see the difference, right?

Shneier seems to be a very disingenuous person, to say the very least. He also seems to be confused as to who he is as a Jew, where he stands, and he is missing alot of important pieces which compromise a mensch.
Sharpton…..I think there is a large contingency of blacks who also don’t really approve of him, but they don’t say it loudly.

  • Hamptons???!!!

A conference in the HAMPTONS?!! How about at the Ch8ildren’s museum or Wingate HS? If the pogrom is to have any meaning it belongs in CH. Then again, maybe it doesn’t have any meaning beyond Shiner’s making himself into some sore of “Jewish leader”, much like Sharpton is a “black leader. and WHAT DID HE DO OR SAY ABOUT ch DURING THE POGROM? WILL HE GET INTO THE ISSUE OF THE SHAMEFUL SILENCE OF SO MANY Jewish ORGS. DURING THE POGROM?

“It’s not like we’re suppose to pursue peace, right?”

That’s correct, number 2. We are not supposed to pursue peace. We don’t turn the other cheek to criminals. Rather, we keep the 7th Nohide law which requires man to establish a system for Justice.

“Let’s just wait for Moshiach to come and fix all of our problems for us”

This will depend. If your Moshiach is Jesus Christ, then you are wrong, since we should actively seek out peace with evil. However if your Moshiach is Moses, then you are correct: We should spend our time doing Mitzvos in solitude since it is Mitzvos that will bring Moshiach, not peace with Sharpton.
